Plasti-dip

So, I'm considering plasti-dipping my chrome parts on my 2007 SR5 4x4.

I want to black plasti-dip all the chrome parts. The grill, the emblems, the rear chrome placard.

I need tips, suggestions, and most off do I remove the emblems? Or do I just mask around them.

If there is thread somewhere. I apologize for the duplicate thread. Just post a link. And, I will move on.

Thanks.

no need to take anything of the car just use painters tape and newspapers to cover around the badges, be sure to shake the can a lot and make sure you give each coat enough time to dry like around a half hour if its warm out. Most of the excess should come off with the tape but for the spaces in between the letters use a toothpick or something similar.

www.dipyourcar.com has more info than you'll ever need... check out the "Videos" tab and go over to Youtube and you'll find all kinds of instructional videos. Pretty awesome site!

Just mask a square around the emblems, you dont have to mask them off perfectly. I did remove the front because it just pops out. The unwanted plasti will peel off easily if you put enough coats on the area. Any accidental over spray can be taken off by a terry towel or something by simply rubbing. As stated above, search some on youtube or go to dipyourcar and you will find everything you need. I just did my wheels last week. Love plasti dip. Enjoy!

I just ordered the 4 wheel kit in charcoal grey for my silver 4th gen. Also just ordered a 2.5" lift to go along with it.

I've been considering the blackout look on my charcoal gray runner. My door handles are chrome and wonder if those should be blacked out as well.

Plasti-Dip Removal

How easy is to remove this stuff if you don't like the results or the way it looks?
Thanks!

it literally just peels off with no residue or damage to the chrome underneath

Great info guys thanks.

So, is did you guys do some prep work to the chrome first? Scuff it up a bit? I will check out YouTube links for sure. But, I also trust you fellow TR4 owners experiences first.

And as far as peeling off excess plasti-dip. Does it not adhere to paint?

no need to prep anything but setting up the tape and newspapers...it adheres to anything you spray it on but it also comes off anything you spray it on

No... don't scuff up anything. Just clean the chrome with alcohol and use cotton swabs to clean the edges and in between. Having it clean just helps the PlastiDip adhere better. Once you get a corner up, you'll be surprised by how easily it peels off and leaves no residue of any kind!

Great! Thanks again.

The TR4 community is great! You guys don't flame. And, are very helpful. I appreciate it.

I wish I could connect with someone in Ohio and do some offroading around here (what little trails we have left).
