secondary air injection help

I picked up a 2005 4.7L 4x4. I have not done the paperwork on it yet. The engine light came on so I took it to a Yota dealer and they explained the issues with the air injection system. The valve was temporally stuck closed. The question is. If I disconnect the air valve will the engine light come on. We don't have emotions testing.

Yo! Welcome to the forum.
You cannot just disconnect the valve.....well you can I guess but the engine light will stay on. You need to do the Secondary Air Bypass mod. There is some info here and a lot on the Tundra forums. I posted to a secondary air thread.....under the warranty section I think?

Check out posts # 8, 16, 17 (numbers on right side at top of each post)

Luckily yours is stuck closed. If it is closed and you do the mod you don't need to add the baffle plates.....just do the mod and they will never open again and just stay closed.

Well he could just ignore it if he doesn't have emissions testing. He should probably get an OBD-2 monitor to keep an eye on things in case he does get an important check engine light in the future though.

He could......but if one of the valves gets stuck OPEN......the truck will go into a reduced Horsepower mode to prevent exhaust gases going back into the intake(i think thats how it works).....ANYWAY its a fire hazzard, thus the crawl mode....max speed is 30-40MPH I think. Once that happens and one of them stays open you are screwed until the computer sees it closed again. More details in the links above.

Sweet. I got rid of my 01 limited and have regreted it every day. I really like this limited with the AWD and the 4.7 is awsome in this size car. I think this would be a great way to keep it and not have the issue of paying a big bill at some point. Sly are you still making these kits? on another side I know it says to do the timing belts at 90K? what have yall seen as a good time, i have seen alot of people say 120K? Thanks for all the help guys.

yeah I still have the parts to build the kits. There is no soldering, but there is a little wire splicing involved.....anybody that can install a car stereo, alarm, build remote controlled cars/trucks, etc can easily do this.....in about an hour or less. Read the link about how it works, pretty slick tweak to trick the ECU those guys figured out.

I did my belt at 122K. No problems. I've always gone longer than the toyota recomended length(had my 3.4L taco done twice) Some people will disagree but here is my logic......if the serpentine belt is still good and not even close to being bad.....and it is exposed to the elements, then SURELY the timing belt is still ok right? Thats just how I like to think about it. It's a risk but so is everything else. I don't ever recall hearing of anyones breaking anywhere close to 100K. So I wouldn't sweat it at this point.

2011 GX 460 80,000 miles secondary air broken

I have a 2011 GX 460. I went to leave for work and when I went to pull out I had no power, 3 lights on the dash flash & I am in SAFETY MODE. (Can't go over 35 mph) I was just lucky no traffic was coming as I could have been T-boned very easily. Called Lexus told me to get it in on the computer. Secondary air failure to the tune of $2,200 and not under warranty. Toyota has extended the warranty with the same issue on the Tundra but not on the GX? I am VERY frustrated. Has anyone gotten anywhere with being reimbursed? I was told they are continuing to use these engines today even thou they know they have an issue with the secondary air. Any suggestions ?????

So, I'm assuming you know for a fact this safety mode in your case is caused by the AIP or Secondary air injection system.
If so......save yourself a ton of headache.
go to ebay and get the snap in bypass module. $179 or so.
Put it in......go on living your life.
If you want a cheap alternative that does the same thing I sell them for $45 but it requires cutting 1 wire. And if your driving a 460......your not worried about $180 vs $45

search ebay for Toyota air pump bypass or something to that affect.
he lists them as working with the GX570(which does not exist) but all the modules are the same for the 4.7, 5.7, 4.6 engines.

Buy the bypass since your valves are stuck open and use the relay kit from slyfox.. DO not pay 2200..

Get this. I got the bypass done by my mechanic 1.5 years ago at 115K miles on my 2007 V-8 limited sport edition 4.7L. Cost me 750. or so. I cannot do these things myself.
Two weeks ago I caved and gave it to dealer to fix the dash lights coming and going and car dying. So far I'm out 2500. or so to eliminate my bypass fix and put their SAIS 'fix' in. But lights keep coming on just as before.
Days go by. They haven't figured it out and have had to call Toyota.
Yes, you heard me right. The Toyota dealer had to call Toyota.
Yada Yada my 4Runner is still in the shop.
They did give me a free loaner.
Whoop-d-do.
I haven't asked my original mechanic where he got the bypass kit but I will. And I didn't find this thread until I was out the major bux.
I do thank all of you out there for your clues, etc.
Again. I am NOT a mechanic. I'm older. I'm female. I'm the original owner.
