Install cost question

Hey 4th Genners,

I am out here on the east coast for 2 weeks of training and found an offroad place that will install both an ARB winch bumper and an OME 3" lift on my 2007 Sport.

I was quoted the following:

$779.95 - OME Heavy Kit
$1,325.74 - ARB Bullbar
$83.40 - ARB Fog Light Kit
$129.95 - alignment
$185 - Shipping bumper & suspension to the shop
11 hours labor at $95.00 an hour to install everything.

Total - $3750, including tax.

Does this sound fair or ridiculous?

I visited the shop last weekend and was very impressed. They were not open at the time (closed on weekends), but the owner happened to be there with his kids, picking up some things. He gave me a tour of the shop and showed me a lot of the work they had going on, mainly with Land Cruisers. Some very cool restorations and work being done. I was especially impressed with the attention to detail they had going on (like fabricating steel brake lines for vintage cruisers).

As I said, they are not open on weekends, but when I explained that I was only out here for a couple of weeks, he said he'd have someone come in and do it on Saturday.

If the price is high, it still seems like he's going the extra mile for me. Plus, I haven't found a decent place in MN that could do this (or which would even return messages, for that matter).

I know a lot of folks will say it's an easy install and I can do it myself, but not only am I not that mechanically-inclined, I also work crazy hours, including most weekends. So it's a better option for me to have the stuff installed.

Slightly OT, but the shop can't get OME heavy coils for the rear until mid-May. So I was planning on heavy up front and medium in the rear (about 200 lbs. of stuff will normally ride back there - tools, gear, and a heavy wooden storage box). Anyone think that would be sufficient?

Thanks in advance for any input!

Ron

Where is this? $130 for an alignment seems pretty crazy. I pay $60 for one by me

The suspension takes 4-5 hrs or so to install, so they are billing you 6-7 hrs for the bumper install. That seems high.

The OME Supension price seems reasonable, but the bumper seems high. Especially since you are paying shipping on top.

For alignment I would hit up Firestone and get their lifetime alignment for $140. Atleast that way you get it checked and adjusted for free going forward.

Alignment looks a little high. My bumper actually took more time to install than the lift and I didn't even have the OE bumper on the truck when I brought it in! Actual install time for bumper without winch was about 8 hours so this quote actually looks in line with how long it took me. I think my OME lift took right at 3 hours with another two for tweaking and alignment.

WHat took so long with the bumper?!

I also think that's high. They should throw in the damn alignment when you're spending that much.

The bumper install is actually more complicated than one would think. After reading of other members install challenges on this forum, I decided I would have it professionally done.

1st, it is a very tight fit with very low tolerances. To get to fit correctly you need to have it spot on. 2nd, with the bumper and skid plates the bumper is a total of 4 pieces, with tight angles and bolts that are difficult to get to once the bumper is on (I know, had to take a skid plate off to install a CB antenna) 3rd, after install you need to trim the fender liners and use plastic snaps to secure them to the bumper. 4th, if you install the optional fog lights figure another hour to hour and a half to splice in fog, turn, and parking lights. There is no direct plug.
