low tire pressure light ...for the spare tire??????

I have a light staying on at the dash. Its the low tire pressure light. I added a little air to all the tires, although none were low. I have about 35psi on them now and the light stays on. I checked the book and its says to check the tires for low air...including the spare tire??

How the hell would it know if the spare is low? I'll have to pull the spare down today and check it.

Yes, all 5 wheels have the tire pressure sensors. I think everybody at one point or another has had to put air in their spare tire so that the light will turn off. It's a bit of an annoyance, but I'm glad it's there, because I know my spare will always be properly inflated in case I need it.

Smile amazing

pulled the tire down, checked the pressure......27psi, it supposed to be 32. So I guess if its off by 5psi it will alert you. The light on the dash is now off. Its amazing that the wheel has a sensor in it that communicates with the rest of the suv. But whats really amazing is that the spare tire/wheel is a full size and matching tire and wheel !!

same thing happened to me.
Yes all the tires do need to be checked periodically. They do leak air over time. I would make sure you put the correct pressure in that Toyota recommends if you want your tires to last.

I had a new BFG installed the other day. I inflated it to 50 lbs, and reinstalled it. I did not like lowering it to check the air. so i figured it will be a while for next time.

It is amazing the technology on these new vehicles. I had the same problem and couldn't figure it out until a member suggested checking the spare. As he pointed out, it's a good thing they have that sensor in the spare. I would hate to be caught in the middle of nowhere with a flat, then lower my spare to find that it too is flat because I forgot to check the air pressure over time.
Yes the spare is a PITA to drop to check the pressure but the sensor is a very cool gizmo.

I recently noticed my low pressure light was on at a gas station and found I had gotten a flat tire. I then had it repaired. Since then my low pressure light has not gone off. I've double checked the pressure on all the tires and they're all at the factory suggested 32psi. I was thinking the sensor in the flat tire was damaged or needed to be reset. Any suggestions before I take it into the dealership?

Try upping the pressure and see if it goes off. Then lower it back to 32psi to see if the light comes on again. Do this for all 5 tires.

How did you have the tire repair? plug? Tire replaced?

The light will go off after a few seconds (30sec?) after the pressures are good. It takes the reading from all 5 wheels, not just the 4 on the vehicle.

Did they take the tire off the rim to patch or did you get a plug? Have you checked your spare tire?

I took the flat to NTB and they suggested I just have it plugged since the tire was brand new and the position of the puncture. I swapped out this tire with the spare and I've checked the pressure on it many times and it hasn't lost any pressure. I guess I'll try filling up all 5 of the tires to 35psi and see if the light turns off before taking it in to the dealer. Thanks.

I've been riding around for a few months now with my tire pressure light on, having checked the 4 on the vehicle and knowing that they were OK, so it must be the spare. This weekend I ran over a screw and puctured a tire. Having the light on b/c of the spare, I didn't realize the tire was running low, and by the time I noticed --after running errands--I only had 10 psi's in my tire. Fortunately the tire was able to be plugged, and no further damage was done.

Let this be a lesson to myself and to everyone else who tries to ignore the psi light--knowing your spare is a little low. The light doesn't do you any good if you leave it on all the time.

How do the sensors work? Is it built into the rim or valve stem? I just got aftermarket wheels and I'm wondering how it will affect the system...
