Custom(ish) Extended Rear Sway Bar Links Write-Up
(Cross-Posted from my thread on Toyota120, I realized I never shared the info with you guys)
It's a well known thing that on the 4th Gens as we lift the rear and then attempt to wheel, the stock swaybar end links just aren't long enough. So I decided it was time to try and make my own.
How It's Made
1 Energy Suspension performance Sway Bar Complete End Link Set 4-1/4" Long --Part #9.8121R
1 Energy Suspension Performance Sway Bar End link Bushing Set --Part #9.8105R
2 3/8"x4-1/2" Eyebolts SWL 1200lb
2 3/8x1/2x1-1/2" Steel Spacer [/B]
Steps
1. Jack Up the car, support with Jack-stands, and remove rear tires.
2. Remove stock sway bar end links, attempt to do it cleanly, then hit it with angle grinder
3. Trim the Steel Spacer so that it is just a bit longer that the opening on the sway bar. Then press in, it seems to go in easier from the inside and then using a C-clamp. The spacer will keep the eyebolt from moving around and making a bunch of noise.
4. Take your new sway bar end links and place the eyebolt at the bottom between the last two bushings. (as pictured below).
5. Put Bushings and washers around the eye bolt on both sides that will connect to the sway bar.
6. Attach your sway bar end links to the frame. I used red Loctite and also double-nutted them because extra nuts were $.11 at Lowes. They shouldn't be going anywhere.
7. Trim the eyebolt with the angle grinder so that it won't hit anything.
8. Repeat on other side in half the time.
9. Put tires on, put truck on the ground, and go flex it out.
Here's some pictures for reference. Hopefully between the two write-ups you should be able to figure out how to get this done. It's really not hard at all. My impression of them has been that my road manners have been greatly improved as with off road. Sharp corners and evasive maneuvers feel much more flat and off road I spent much more time with all my wheels on the ground.
Length Comparison To Stock
I measure against a stock 4Runner and it appears that they are about an inch longer. Stock came in at about 5.5" and mine were about 6.5".

Awesome thread man! This is such a great alternative to finding loner that fit with factory style. Picked all this up for around $35 which is sick!
Have everything for the links and installing tomorrow along with the rest of my suspension. I bought the 1" spacer because someone that did this(maybe you) mentioned you have to cut it a bit anyway. Any tips that you can give would be awesome. Below is what i have going on. I don't know if I want to go from 265/60/18 to just 265/65/18 or 275/65/18. Anyone have a similar set up. Also anyone else who has these links, how are they working out?

I'm curious how durable off-roading they are. That eyebolt is rated for quite a bit of strength, but I'm thinking of the constant shearing forces of off-roading and slamming the truck up and down 6+ inches.

Nice man! Yeah the beauty of this is the price and simplicity. I cut my spacer when I did mine because the only reason it's there is to change the ID of the hole in the sway bar to fit the eye bolt. Some have just slipped the bushings over the spacer and haven't had any issues. I don't have the same set up as you have lift wise but I'd say move up to 275's or 285's, but that's just me.

Myself and many others have had this set up for a while now. I really don't think that there's that much force on the links, at least not enough to snap a 12,000lb bolt. I've driven about 5,000 mi on them and wheeled the piss out of it with no issues. I suppose only time will tell but I have full confidence in them.

Hey guys,
I have a question about these. I'm going to be doing the standard FJ coils and 5100's next weekend and was planning on picking up these while I have everything stripped down. My question is, are these necessary if I'm just doing the FJ springs and 5100's and if so, are these parts available at say, NAPA or would I need to order them offline.
Thanks.

Most people with CO's or heavy OME coils just run without a front sway bar. Someone is trying to work on a removable link setup but so far no one has one yet.

So are these necessary with any lift or could I run FJ springs and 5100's with the stock end links?

4 Wheel parts is running a 10% off on the bushings and links. During check out after you pick either Paypal or Google, use code "CC5OFF" for another 5% off for added discounts to your item/s and shipping cost.
