The slot it is supposed to cover is to allow you to shift the trans out of park into neutral in case you have to push or tow the vehicle because you can't start it. You insert a key or a screwdriver into the slot to disengage the shift lock. Normally, you can't shift the trans out of park unless the vehicle is running, and you depress the brake pedal. The cover is only for cosmetic purposes, and it will not effect how the vehicle works if it isn't in place.
in regards to the heated seats I have no knowledge in that realm as I just have the SR5. . . you yuppies and your heated seats!
