Tyler's Galactic Grey 2003 2WD SR5 aka "Spock" Build Thread

So I finally gave in and decided to start my own build thread. I've been putting it off for quite awhile now, and I figured that I might as well start one before I get too deep into my mods.

Stock 2003 2WD SR5 4Runner Galactic Grey
(Not my 4Runner, but this is similar to what it looked like when I got it)

I got the 4Runner in December 2011 from my parents as a vehicle for college. I didnt know much about 4Runners, I was more into trucks at the time and didnt pay much attention to SUV's.

The day I got home for Christmas Break from college in Idaho and saw the 4runner in the driveway, I was so excited for my new ride. It was even better when I got to drive it for the first time.

December 2011:

Can you elaborate on how you did the inverter? I've been contemplating that for a while.

Truck looks awesome man.

So i went and bought a power inverter from harbor freight, i think its the 200w inverter. i wanted it to be hidden so it looked clean, and since i never used the little storage bin things, i decided to place it in there. i ran a power from the battery and then a chasis ground through a hole i drilled inside the storage bin. then i got an old extension cord and plugged it into the inverter and ran it to the center console where i installed a plug outlet. its a pretty basic setup. let me know if you want anymore in depth photos of it.

and thanks

Since Im in college, that means there are partys and that leads to drunk people. Since Im the one with the suv in my group of friends, Im usually the DD by personal preference. Anyways, as i was saying, Im not a fan of people throwing up in my rig, so I usually put the super drunk people in the back of my rig (only when necessary) and the problem ive run into is that the person in the back of the rig cant get out until someone opens the hatch. so i decided to install a button to allow the person in the back of the rig to get out once the doors are unlocked.

All i did was wire in a normally open push button switch in parallel with the button on the tailgate. so when the button gets pushed it opens the hatch just like pressing the outside button. here are a few photos of the button installed and a video of it.

Here are 2 videos of a trail that a group of friends and I drove in Idaho called Blackrock. Not to bag on chevy or ford, but I can honestly say, my 2WD 4runner can go just about everywhere a 4WD chevy or ford can go to a certain extent. as my friend always says what you dont have in traction, you can make up in speed. and I've got to be honest, its kind of the truth. it almost seemed like my 2WD almost out performed the 4WD chevy. But, there are times when 4WD would be really nice to have in my 4runner. All Ive got to say, is I am really surprised at how well a 2WD 4runner does on the trails out here in Idaho. and yes, that is an RX7 in the opening photo on the second video. you would have been surprised how well that car did in the dirt and mud!!! 2WD FTW

My ugly 1.5" green wheel spacers arrived today, now im just waiting on getting the rest of the wheels. Hopefully these guys will help my new wheels clear the massive front brake calipers that these 4runners are equipped with.

Finally got the rest of my wheels yesterday and I had them all mounted up today. The front have a 1.5" wheel spacer so my new wheels could clear the brake calipers.
