Backup Camera -Reverse Wire
Has anyone wired their backup camera reverse sensor wire to a wire in the dash? I've found several threads where they wired it to a wire coming off the trailer connector and wiring in the rear of the 4runner. I need to tap into a wire in the dash because my reverse wire is coming out of the new head unit.
Any help is appreciated.

look for a red with yellow stripe wire and just make sure you test it with a test light I got my reverse wire on the drivers side lift up the door sill and the wire is in that bundle if you cant find it behind the dash.

I'm going strictly off memory, but I got power for the camera from the reverse light which was yellow with red (I think) and I tapped the trigger wire (the one from the HU you're talking about) into a wire on the driver side door sill. It could have been the same wire but I remember there being purple in the equation as well. Maybe the supplied trigger wire was purple with white or something. Ugh, sorry if that creates more confusion. I can double check it when I get a moment (been a while). Hope that helps. Good luck.

The reverse wire can be located at the driver's foot well/kick panel. Here's one of many threads detailing an install of a HU. The reverse wire has many places where it can be accessed. I used this location at the driver's side to install my cam.

It's a few pics down the page.

Thanks for the help on locating the reverse wire. My son and I did the backup camera install yesterday. Easily located and tapped into the red/yellow wire in the drivers kick panel area.
We're not totally thrilled about the camera location, as it it more noticeable that we had hoped. But, it's not bad. It mounted with industrial strength adhesive that came on the camera. I planned to also add a screw or 2, but the adhesive seems to be pretty permanent.
The strangest thing that happened was the rear hatch electric opener switch stopped working at some point during the install. I had dis-connected the rear door ECU so that I could get access for running the video cable. But, I reconnected it and it still wouldn't open. I tried re-setting it by disconnecting the negative battery cable, but didn't seem to help. After about an hour, my son walked out and tried it and it started working again. We have no idea what happened. The switch is newly replaced due to the original melting and has worked fine.

What method/location did you guys use to get from the rear hatch into the passenger compartment with the camera wire?

Hi all, I am going to plug my camera into the rear brake lights, but where do you hook up the monitor power supply to?
Is there a place in the fuse box for aux? Which one? Thanks in advance. I want to do it this weekend but wasn't sure where to plug it into. Some people said the radio but then I got to remove the whole console.

You can take it through the chrome piece below the windshield wiper. There's a rubber grommet inside, accessed through the inside after removing the plastic liner. There's a youtube video on it. You mount the camera on the side of the chrome piece next to one of the license plate lights.

Back door ECU reset
For anyone wondering, you can "reset" the back door ECU by hitting lock/unlock 3 times each (a total of 6 times) on the driver's side door control. I don't THINK it matters if you start with lock or unlock, but it might.

I just tapped into rear-passanger (left) light at the small rear compartment. Way easier than run it to the dash.

Are you talking about the camera power or the power for the dash monitor? Or is that where you powered the monitor?
I was thinking of tapping into the rear brake light power for both the monitor and the camera. I think you can access all the wires underneath the rubber molding below the driver seat near the door. For ground, I was going to use the screw near the kickbox near the brake pedal.
