Heated Mirror Woes

I read quite a few posts about people wanting to add heated mirrors to their '03 '04 4Runners and some years seemed to have all the wiring already there. Unfortunately, if you have a Canadian '04 SR5, only the wiring under the hood is present. The fuse is installed and I believe the wiring stops at connector IC4 pin D4, which is behind the driver's side kick panel.

I already purchased some heated mirror glass replacements, so I'll probably be adding some wiring this weekend...

In all the years i have had vehicles with heated mirrors i can remember using them only twice... on the rare occasion my vehicle was parked outside over night... i think heated windshield (where the wipers are) would be a better feature! Especially for our Canadian winters!

I really like the feature in the 4runner. This is the first time I've had it and it is painless and works very quickly. I never have to scrape the side mirrors anymore

I though all the canadian models had the heated mirrors? Did you turn on your rear defrosted and see if the side mirrors get warm?

I do like the feature, especially in an ice storm when it can build up pretty thick. BTW they also work good for getting the morning fog off the mirrors in the fall.

The Sports automatically came with heated mirrors....SR5's didn't. We have this feature on our van, it works great. We also have the heated windshield under the wipers on the van also.....More vehicles should come with this feature...expecially in Canada...

Please post pics when you get this complete. I'd like to add heated mirrors to my SR5 as well.

TIA

I miss the heated mirrors on my 4Runner. I had hoped to buy the heated mirrors from Toyota and simply replace the mirror itself. I have an 04 SR5, so I guess I can't do this!

Again, should you be successful in adding wires, please post your procedure.

Hm...interesting. Let us know how it goes.

I really don't have a need for the mirrors though. Never snows here so there really isn't anything to melt off. I like them color-keyed though.

So did Sports in the U.S. get these too? I'm not aware of this feature. I probably need to find out as all this global warming talk is bunk & it just might get cold here this winter.

Easy check for you: Turn on your rear defrost and touch the mirror glass, if it gets warm, you have heated mirrors.

My bro's Subaru Legacy 2.5 GT (awd turbo - STi setup) had "wiper heaters"...the area where the wipers rest has a heater....it keeps the wipers warm helping the blades cut thru any ice on the windshield

I added the Muth LED turn signal mirrors to my 4Runner...it is $269 for the heated turn signal mirrors.
here
here is my thread about them:
here

As long as you are replacing the mirrors with heated ones, you might as well get the LED turn signals as well!

I completely forgot I had heated side mirrors!!!! I remember using them last winter once or twice... and I was thinking the other day how I wished I had heated mirrors (my side mirrors were frosted because it was outside). Thanks for the reminder!!!

In regards to setting it up.. I don't think it'll be all too hard. Just some nice wiring + the heaters. How much are you paying for those heated mirrors?
