Price check - Brakes and axle seal

Took our '07 to the dealer today to get the brakes looked at for a possible warped rotor or siezed caliper (brakes were pulsing at speed and causing a steering wheel shimmy). They called back and said that it was indeed warped rotors and that the brakes would need the rotors turned and new pads installed on all 4 corners. They also said that one of the rear axle seals had gone bad and had leaked enough to contaminate the parking brake shoes, requiring both a new axle seal and a rebuild of the parkig brake.

Now I'm going to have them do the axle seal for sure, but I wanted to get the opinions of the board here to see if their prices were fair for the brakes, or if I should go somewhere else.

Their prices were:
$400 - turning front rotors and replacing pads
$400 - turning rear rotors and replacing pads
$500 - rebuild parking brake with new pads
$230 - replace leaking rear axle seal

The front and rear brake quotes seemed high to me considering they weren't replacing the rotors, just turning them (I'd prefer to do the brakes myself but have neither the time nor a place to work on them). I have no clue what a parking brake rebuild should cost, but that one seemed high also. Thanks in advance for any replies.

Anybody had their brakes worked on recently? Is $400 per axle a reasonable price for just pads and turning rotors?

i think autozone will turn your rotors for 12 bucks and putting pads in is really easy to DIY if you're interested
also, have you had parking brake adjusted? May not need a full rebuild

Our local toyota-honda specialty shop does pads and turned rotors for $149/axle.i just had her truck done. I figured pads were $89, turning was $15-20 and this way I didn't have to deal with it as the price was reasonable.

Thanks for the replies zopperman and ebg18t. At that price, I'll just have them do the axle seal since they're the local Toyota dealer/certified shop, then take the truck somewhere else for the brakes (or possibly hold out until I can find some time and a place to do it myself).

You can get 4 new rotors and pads for $400. Brake jobs are one of the easiest things to do and happen to be highest margin for shops.

$400 installed for 4 rotors and pads all around? Probably at a local independent shop.

You can get some nice pads and new rotors all around for probably $250-300 online and have it shipped to your house.
