Question Dealer charges $55 for my radio security code!

Greetings,

This is my first post on this forum. I have a 97 4Runner with the factory Radio 51706, and I am the original owner.

Last Friday I decided it's time to replace the 7 year old battery in my car, so I went to Costco to get a $40 battery and replaced it myself.

After the battery installation, I found my radio needed the security code to reactivate it, I searched all the documents that came with my car, and couldn't find the code (I thought it'd be like the BMW's that came with a card that has the code printed on it?)

So I called my dealer (which I serviced my car there for the whole 7 years) and guess what? They said they need to charge $55 to call someplace inorder to get the code for me!

$55? It's more than I paid for my new battery!

Long story short, would anyone know how could I get the code (or reactivate the radio) without letting my dealer charges me $55?

Thanks, and with best regards,

- Alex.

Take it to another dealership.

That information is free from what I know. So long as you can provide that the vehicle in question is yours ofcourse
