Anybody pass smog in California running long tube thorleys? Looking at using 02 sensor spacers and hoping that will be enough to not throw any engine codes and pass.

Glad to help ya out.
This is what you want. Have in stock finally! Will save 1-2 hours on install. Also can torque with never worrying about snapping. If you’d like to see more installed pictures, text me

I have quite a few people I know in CA with these headers and haven't heard any complaints.

I bought the DT shorty headers for my 2003 V8 4Runner and wanted to find out if any of you have been able to use a pair of high-flow Magnaflow cat convertors as primary cats in this setup? I was thinking of paying a muffler shop to make the primary cats detachable so that I can use a high-flow cat and then have the ease of taking them out before my smog check and putting in the oem cats so I can pass smog. Has anyone done this?

The DT y-pipe has a couple of resonators in it to help with keeping drone down.
But, the muffler has the most significant impact on exhaust sound of any of the components we've discussed. As long as you keep the OEM muffler or something similar, you should have no issues with being a nuisance to neighbors.
Even with my set up, headers, aftermarket cats, y-pipe, and Magnaflow Catback, my truck can barely be heard at RPMs that are typical of neighborhood driving and engine loads. It'll make some noise under heavy load, but otherwise it's very tame.

Hey JONBOY, I noticed that the GESI G-Sport cats in your profile are only 7" in length. Which are shorter than the stock cats by a few inches. Was that an issue with installation?
I'm looking to mirror what you did, excluding the gibson catback. I already own the DT Y-Pipe and DT Shorties. Figured I may as well replace the cats while I can.

I did this a couple weeks back and did get the DTC does (think P0420 and P0430) that corresponded to the cats not operating at the correct efficiency. Put some spacers on my downstream O2 sensors and the codes have stayed off...that being said they only do a visual check here in NC to see if you have cats, not sure where you are located, but you may need to use different magnaflows with higher cell counts to pass emissions.

DT Short tube install in Northern VA??
OK, my '06 V8 Manifold cracks are beyond tolerable now and I would like to install a pair of shorties (because of the ability to retain the cats) but am not getting a warm and fuzzy feeling from local installers. None of which can get the headers through their own suppliers. Looking for recommendations for reliable exhaust work in the Northern VA area. Closer to Manassas the better. Anyone ever use Midas for this kind of work? Cutting and welding of the H pipes, etc? They actually seemed to be the most confident but with a disclaimer about exhaust studs. Any other advice is hugely appreciated.

Yes, I have the Magnaflow high flow cats in stock that will work with the shorty headers. I've sold a ton of these over the past 4 years and give a nice pwoer gain over the stock cats. Call/text if you need 717-319-2100

You can drive here to PA and we can install for you. Not sure how far away you are, but my guy has now installed over 20 sets.
Some other things to note, these new studs will save 1-2 hours on install. My installer prays people get these as his job is much harder without them. Also can torque with never worrying about snapping. If you’d like to see more installed pictures, text me

I’m in the Manassas area of VA. Not out of the question to come your way (Harrisburg area??). But I’d still like to research options closer by. Just easier to bring the truck back with any issues after the install.

Sorry for the delayed response. There were no issues fitting the Gesi cats due to length. The biggest issue you'll run into is adapting the collector to the top of the Gesi cat as the Gesi is a bit bigger.
The Collector diameter on the headers is 2.5" while the inlet and outlet diameter on the cat is 3".
A decent exhaust fabricator should have no issue with this. I will highly recommend using the OEM manifolds to build a jig that can be used to assemble and weld together the DT shorties and Gesi cats.

I finally am ready to get going on these cracked manifolds and was looking to get the DT long tubes. I can't seem to find the URD O2 simulator anywhere? Have they discontinued it?

Does anyone know if you can install the short or long tubes and skip the y pipe and just have a dual exhaust made with high flow cats and an x pipe? Sorry, might be a dumb question.

Absolutely can. Make sure you have at least an upstream O2 bung for your AFR sensor.
My .02, go with the Long tubes, and the cat's in my signature. Outside of that, go nuts and post results.

FS: NIB Doug Thorley Headers
Hi all - I’m selling my new in box DT Long Tube Headers and Y-Pipe, and O2 Simulator (not extender). I had to part ways with my V8 4th gen before I could install these unfortunately.

Are the 03-04 v8 headers different? If so, does anyone know if the 05-09 headers can work on those?
