Aftermarket TPMS sensors for new wheels
Hi all,
What aftermarket sensors have you picked up and used? I'm seeing several sets of 4 on ebay. I am assuming these are not programmed and will need to be?
Have you done this yourself? I have a Foxwell NT650 Elite, but I don't believe it's capable enough to handle TPMS programming
I understand that the default response from most is, get a tire shop to do it. I'm trying to see the DIY way of getting this done before calling around and getting quotes.
Thanks!

I use an Autel TPMS scanner to upload sensor IDs to the vehicle's ECU.
I use Denso TPMS sensors, Dill sensors also are good.

Denso 550-0103 you can use those if the wheels will take them, i just bypass mines. i do regular air check up tho.

Post some links, unfortunately Ebay has many that say it OE but most are in fact Chinese knock offs, if it's not from a reputable seller/dealer my guess is not worth the risk!

That being said I would rather spend another $6 to $10 each at many places and get Denso 550-0103 sensors which are definitely an OE sensor, or even better yet get them from RockAuto for $1 more each ($35.79) than the ones you posted from Ebay, of course there's no free shipping but it's worth it IMHO.

are the Denso ones the same as the ones in the Toyota box from the dealer? rather not pay 60-90 from the dealer. also, if i am putting on new tires, will there be a large to install the new sensors, or is that typically included in the mount and balance?

Denso makes the OEM sensors, they're a safe choice.
It's hard to say whether or not your shop will charge to install the sensors since they're not all the same, but mine did not charge extra to swap the sensors while they were already doing the mount and balance.

i was more concerned about a programming cost for new sensors. i would replace all five since they are original to my '07.

Which model of scanner do you use? I see prices from $149 to over $1200

I've been using an Autel TS501 for a few years.
It has not let me down, I updated the firmware on it last year.
It works like an old Coleco Football handheld..
I swap wheels between trucks now and then.

I picked up a used set of OEM sensors off a 5th gen when I upgraded my wheels last year. I don't have any experience with aftermarket ones but a lot of folks run them and most shops sell them when buying aftermarket wheels.
I programmed them with an Autel TS501. It was super easy and took about 10 minutes. I think technically you use the "relearn" function for OEM sensors and "programming" for aftermarket ones. I only mention that since those tools use that terminology and the "relearn" function is needed for OEM ones.
I would not pay a shop $160 to do this and would rather buy a tool instead.

Coleco - Wow, haven't heard that name in forever. (CO-LE-CO = Connecticut Leather Company) I see they went bankrupt in 1988, revived in 2005 when Hasbro bought them.
So with the Autel you don't need the Techstream software? The 'relearn' feature of the Autel will do the job?
My 2004 has 1 bad sensor. The others are still reporting. I've been to several shops and none of them will install Denso TPMS because none of them have Techstream. I'd like to get the Denso from Amazon and have a tire store install it, then I can activate it, if the Autel can do that. Amazon has the Autel TS501 for $200. Toyota dealership wants $400 a tire and all of mine should be replaced.
