It's always going to start at or near the ambient air temp and go up from there. From what I've seen around-town driving it will normally stay between 160 and 180. Start climbing steep hills and it will go up, especially if you keep it in D. I generally shift to 4 as soon as I hit 200 and that almost always cools it down.
Altitude doesn't seem to have any effect on it. Outside air temp will have an effect and as I said, if you're climbing and the transmission is shifting a lot, that will cause it to go up.

can you pick the name for the gauge in the x gauge feature? I've seen TFT and AFT and TFL, are you guys doing that yourselves?

Yes. We pick the name we call custom X gauges.

Been averaging 140-180f around town with conservative driving and ambient temps of 70-80f. Haven't had a chance to run up the hills in this area yet, but anticipating 190sh in 4th gear.
When I had my scangauge hooked up to my 04 Tacoma with an aux trans cooler, the around town temp was the same. Going up mountain passes I'd usually see 185-205 with overdrive off (4 spd auto). I would see an instant decrease in temps as soon as I took out of overdrive.

Old thread I know but still relevant. Does anyone know the different Xcodes for torque converter and pan temp readings?

Best list I've seen and What I used to set up my 06 with TFT and TPMS was
>> TOYOTA – LEXUS – SCION
I have not seen a split for the torque converter and pan temp readings, just the TFT.

Yep the first Pre-2010 CANSF trans temp worked for me and is closer to the actual temp of the trans. Scangauge read 160F this morning driving to work and the IR temp gun on the pan was 145F or so. Close enough I guess? Hahha

I just got my SG working to display the tranny temp and on a recent trip over a mountain pass it got up to 240, which I thought was excessive since I wasn't carrying much weight. I didn't try to downshift to 3rd, but I'll try that next time.

I have not. Does the 04 V6 have a dipstick? I just got this and don't know all about it yet. My 05 Tundra V6 didn't have a dipstick.

Yes the 2004 V6 has a dipstick, the 2004 V8 does not, all T4Rs after the 2004 does not.

Just checked it cold. It seems to be a bit overfilled. It was in the HOT range on the stick. I'll recheck it when it's hot and see what it looks like. The fluid was bright red and didn't smell burnt. I have 211k miles.

I recently programmed my SGII to display trans temps as well. Driving home from work the other day I was watching the SG curious to see what temps were like. On a relatively flat highway with few hills and a headwind I saw my temps reaching into the 230’s on the small climbs. Outside temp was upper 80’s if that matters. I’m on 33’s, 2” lift and heavy skids with no extra weight in back.
