What is your measured Voltage at the battery with the truck on?

Hello,

My T4R failed to start this morning while running errands. No clicking sound from the starter, just a few lights lit up on the dash. The road side assistance my insurance company provides couldn't jump it with the portable battery charger/jumper. So I asked if they can jump it from the civic they drove up in, all the lights lit up on the dash, turned the key, multiple clicks from the starter. The road side assistance guy insisted it was the starter that was the problem and offered to call somebody for a tow. I didn't think it was the starter so I declined the offer and called my father (father's first comment was: "34 years old and still needs his daddy" ) to bring his truck so he could jump start my truck. I was thinking the Civic's Battery or the portable jumper just didn't have enough cranking amps or was too small of a battery to crank the T4R. Put the jumpers on and the truck started right up.

So I got the new battery isntalled. With the car off, it shows 12.7V at the terminal, with the truck running, it's @ 13.6V. I bought the truck used and I'm trying to figure out if the alternator may not be charging the battery or if it was just time for a new battery. So I was wondering if any of you have measured the voltage at the terminal with the truck on? If you have, what are the voltages you are getting? Thanks everyone.

I have an Ultragauge hooked up and it usually reads around 13.8V with the truck running.

Both of my batteries were between 13.7-13.9 on Saturday when I was checking everything.

13.6 Volts isn't too bad, the alternator is outputting decent voltage from the sound of it.

How old was the battery? They do go bad after a while, I believe normal life expectency on an average quality battery is in the 5-7yr range.

yep, at 5-6 years its time to start thinking about replacing it.
