Definitely check the gas cap first....
Noticed on my '05 4RUN this morning the MIL /CEL + VSC / TRAC lights all came on. Read through this post and checked the gas cap remembering I'd gotten a full tank yesterday. Sure enough, gas cap wasn't close to being secured tightly.
After clicking shut the gas cap, disco'd the battery terminals, started up and cleared the error codes.
Over here in NJ we still have full service gas stations manned by barely functioning attendants not paying attention while they are making calls out to the middle east.
Anyway...great thread, like most of the threads on this forum & much appreciated.

Updated the original post with a second "Helpful Hint" detailing how to physically test the gas cap's tension, there's a TSB that details gas caps failing prematurely for DTCs P0441 & P0455, and/or P0456. I hesitated to include it into the original post at first because I didn't want to have people confuse me with saying to replace the gas cap (like everyone always seems to think is always the issue). But the testing method is a good one and should help people out who are suspecting a gas cap failure.

What do you recommend when there is no CEL but the other two are lit up (VSC Trac and VSC Off)
I have replaced the two ABS lines and the sensors on front hubs (Free)
Gas cap
Oxygen sensors
Inspected rear ABS lines and sensors and no visual issues
ZPC multiple times
Thx Bro.

^^^ What expatoz said...almost.
2003 4Runner Limited V8 4WD
VSC TRAC and VSC OFF lights stay on. No CEL or ABS lights.
Suggestions?
I have used a specific set of instructions for the 2003 4runner put out by Toyota in Dec 2003 called DTC C1203 - BR005-03. I followed them exactly but no luck. I get partway through the instructions (step #7) and the lights don't do what they are supposed to (VSC TRAC light does NOT go off after 15 seconds after ignition switch is turned on) so I stop. Don't want to mess anything up. BTW, like I originally posted, NO check engine light or ABS light on.

I have same truck with same lights on. I haven't tried to fix it yet because I wanted the traction control off so I could play in the snow anyways lol. Is there any important reason to get these systems working again..? We aren't doing any damage by driving them as is, correct? The third gens didn't even have these systems so I felt like I wasn't missing out on much

I had mine come on a few months ago but no engine CEL, just the other lights. It was my brake switch. $20 and been good ever since. If you have a full scanner with abs capability it will show it. .

I don't have a scanner as of yet. Maybe I should change the $20 brake switch first before I spend the $100 for a scanner?

My preferred alternative to an OBD scanner is a cheap OBD-to-bluetooth adapter (about $20-30 on Amazon), and the Torque app for an Android phone (free version available, paid version is about $5-10).
I don't think this will let you see info about the ABS/TRAC/VSC systems, but it will let you scan OBD codes for the engine, reset OBD codes, and view live OBD engine data from your phone.
Does anyone have a recommendation for an inexpensive scanner that will show ABS/TRAC/VSC info?

My bluepoint scanner shows abs codes. Idk what you consider inexpensive but it's $180. I did notice if u clear codes zero point calibration is required after.

Zero point video I used that worked.

Ok guys. I got the code read. C1234 - Malfunction in yaw rate sensor.
Where do I go from here? Not an expert but doesn't sound cheap or easy.

My 3 CEL/VSC/TRAC experiences
Just want to say thanks for all the posts on this subject in this thread and elsewhere, it's ridiculous that these will indicate about a billion different issues. These have all been covered many times over in various threads but here are the three problems and solutions I've experienced in my '05 4wd V8 Limited, ~150k miles:
CEL, VSC, & TRAC - This was years ago so I don't remember the code, but there was a CEL so there was a simple code to pull - in my case, loose gas cap (oops). It kept happening though, so I replaced the gas cap..fixed for good, $20. https://www.amazon.com/Genuine-Toyot...toyota+4runner
CEL, VSC & TRAC - codes P1445, P2441 - the dreaded secondary air injection system. I ordered a bypass kit - there are more write-ups on this issue on Tundra forums. My valves were stuck closed so I just installed the electric bypass kit - it came with block-off plates and I will install those at some point but the electric bypass alone has worked fine for several months. There are cheaper options out there, but here's one: https://hewitt-tech.com/store/index....uct_detail&p=7
VSC & TRAC, intermittent at first, then more often and eventually couldn't get the shifter out of Park without using a screwdriver on the bypass - This one is important! My brake light switch was failing! This is the little gray/white plastic receiver for a small wiring harness attached to the brake pedal. I caught it pretty quick but I was driving for at least a day with no brake lights, and of course the only indication at first was the stupid VSC/TRAC lights - eventually the locked shifter clued me in. It's a cheap Toyota part and I went even cheaper with this generic $24 one - https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0...?ie=UTF8&psc=1
Again this is nothing new, just thought I'd share my 3 experiences specific to '05 V8 and thank y'all for helping me out each time.

I got the 3 lights about a week ago. Did BlackWorks' gas cap tension check, and sure enough, it felt slack. Got a new OEM one to replace it, and about 3 starts later, the lights went away.

I just posted about this a few months ago. My front wheel bearing went and had enough slack that the speed sensor wasn't picking up correctly anymore. Gave me the VSC, TRAC, skid symbol, and ABS lights along with a blinking TPS light.
The sensor wasn't damaged and after the bearing was replaced everything cleared and I haven't had any problems since (about 9-10k miles ago, I do about 25k miles a year).

I recently went to get my state inspection (Texas) and failed for the P0441, P0446, P0455 codes. This was a surprise, since none of the VSC, Traction, CEL lights were illuminated.
Got the gas cap and wiped the computer by taking power off the battery overnight. Seems to have worked. But now I'm thinking the lights my not by working. When I start the car, no CEL light, no VSC, no Traction illuminate, even briefly (which they should).
Has anyone come across this? New and can't post a thread, searches all just pull up people with the gas cap issue/codes/lights.
Thanks.
04 4wd w/ 145000 if it makes a difference.
