Story
Was driving the Rodeo (hand me down because I sold my 240sx and needed a temp ride), rolled just over 215k miles and it was on its way out. Got hooked on off-roading years ago, but finally pulled the trigger on a new ride. Searched for over 3 months to find the perfectly configured T4R. Finally found the winner in Arizona. Worked up a deal and headed over early Saturday morning.

8/17/13
Picked her up from Camelback Toyota in Arizona. The drive took about 6 hours. We then headed out on the road, took a detour to Vegas before bringing her back home to So Cal. What a great way to break her in! Drove through so many lightning storms on the way to Vegas, it was beautiful! I transferred the basket over from the Rodeo.

Installed Pioneer AVIC Z110BT (Upgraded to Z140BH), Metra TYTO-01, PAC SWI-RC

Removal of the panels was easy and straight forward.

The addition of the extra cables and boxes makes it very difficult to put the headunit back into its place. I had to stuff them under the headunit instead of behind it.

All finished! Putting the trim piece back on was a huge PITA and it did not want to go on. With some pushing and effort, it finally snapped into place.

We have been wanting to head out to Anza Borrego for some time now, and the weather was in perfect form, so we decided to take a quick weekend trip. The park itself is absolutely massive, with so many roads to drive, and a ton of points of interest to see. We just barely scraped the surface and cant wait to go back. We arrived late Friday night and stayed until Sunday afternoon.

I was a little concerned that the 4Runner wouldn’t have enough clearance for some of the roads that I wanted to hit. Boy was I wrong! I took off the running boards to ensure I wouldn’t damage them on any rocks and avoid any high siding. The T4R performed wonderfully. The ride was smooth, focused, and had tons of driver feedback. There was only 1 section on South Carrizo Creek where it was soft sand, deep ruts, and the truck slowed to a stop. I slowly gave the truck some gas, and we pulled away no problem. The washboard section on Arroyo Tapiado was a bit rough, but nothing it couldn’t handle. Im anxiously awaiting to install the lift next, Bilstein 5100′s set at 1.75 & Moog FJ springs. All in all, a wonderful trip with some amazing new places. Can’t wait to go back!

The mud caves were an amazing experience as well. I’ve never seen this type of landscape before so it was awesome to crawl around through dark and cold caves. We ventured a bit into the Bat cave, but didn’t get to see any bats. The air was cool and fresh inside the caves, headlamps required as some parts were pitch black. Chasm cave was amazing with some of the skylights we saw. As the sun started to set, the views of the caves was a scene straight out of Indian Jones! I could spend a whole day here!

Saturday
- Check out Pictographs
- South Carrizo Creek to Arroyo Tapiado
- Explored Bat Cave, Carey’s Big & Chasm

Sunday
Lunch & headed home

Getting Wild..

So happy!

Great pictures and it sounds like you guys had a great time. Did you have enough fuel for the weekend or did you drive somewhere to fill back up?

How did you put the LED lights on the running boards? I have been wanting to do that but can not figure it out.

Thank you! We had a blast. Can't wait to get back out there and explore more. It's about a 2.5hr drive from home, made the entire weekend trip on 1 tank of gas.

Just remove the bulb from the underside of the boards. Just give the plug a twist and they should pop out. Standard 194 bulbs is what I used, replaced with LED's. Should only take you a few mins to do =)

Did you need to engage into 4wd in those trails?

Because they look easy enough for a noob in a 2wd sport to attempt.

How do you like the DDM hid's? Thinking about going with the same ones for mine but can't decide. Are yours 55 or 35 watt? Thanks.

Not to thread jack, but I got my 35W HIDs from DDM. I love them. It is very much a plug and play installation.

Since I have a V8, I have full-time 4WD. I can only engage 4Hi or 4Lo. These trails were easy enough for a 2WD, no problem. Next time we head out, ill def give you a heads up =)

So far so good. I went with the 35w. Be warned though, if you plan to run a CB or HAM radio, these ballasts are NOT shielded.
