4th gen dash removal and AC repair

Sorry for not using the search function, I am on deployment and anyone in the Navy that has been out to sea trying to use the ships internet can tell you its like back in the dial up days with AOL.

Is there a how to for dash removal? if so can someone point me in the right direction? My wife emailed me and said the AC went out in the 4runner. She had it looked at and the tech said that is leaking from whatever is under the dash. She can drive our other car until I get back in December. I want to replace all the parts my self then have it filled so I don't have to fork over 800 dollars.

Thanks for any input on this subject!

I don't know of any 'how-to's' for the dash removal here's the running thread on cracked dash issues and a member posted up pictures of the disassembly process starting at post #150 on page 10.

Dash removal

It's not a difficult process but it's time consuming and will require removing the entire front interior. Here's a pic of the removed dash that will be a good reference for attachment points:

And last but not least - Thank you for your service!

When I do the repairs, I will try and take pics and write up a how to. Do I need to remove the steering wheel?

Yes I know the steering wheel had to come off and I think we had to drop the column to get the dash / dash support out. If you have the factory shop manual they actually have excellent directions, if not PM me your email address.

I tried to get the blower assembly out by just removing the glove box and the right side "things blocking my view", but no luck. That top bolt in the blower box assembly can't be reached without the dash out.

I'm attempting to replace my blend door actuator. Get an annoying grind/clicking sound (the famous one) at random times. Vent controls don't move the air to the defrost or floor with any force, so most of the air stays via the vents. I was able to verify that it's the blend door motor when I pulled things apart the other day.

Whew,,,, looks like a fun job... not sure when I'll tackle it, but when I do, I plan to video it for Youtube.

I just removed my dash to replace the evaporator core. Let me tell you this job was no joke. Taking apart wasn't to bad but I didn't do a good job of pictures/videos to help me out. I had the dash on twice now and just took it off again to help connect some harnesses that I miss. I'm kind of at at loss now. I was hoping someone might be able to help me with two harnesses that I can seem to figure out where they go too or any at all. The harnesses are right next to the ECU module. A white connector that I am feeling pretty confident that is not being used based on the way it's taped and I actually found two more connectors that wasn't used. The other black connecter I'm not to sure of since it's pretty loose but cannot for the life of me find where it goes. I'm guessing that wasn't an uncommon thing like I thought it was. Below are pictures of the harnesses. I plan on creating a more lengthy post later of the dash removal as for I have not found much information on it. The only issue I had once i got it back together was the airbag light on the driver side came on and the auto window down for the driver's side wouldn't work. But from what I read those may need to be reset?
