Smile scion head unit upgrade, 1808 or 1809 or other

HI, I am looking to upgrade my 2003 SR5 basic head unit to a Scion head unit as has been suggested in this forum. I note that two different models are used, the 1808 and the 1809. Any preference between the two or is there another scion model that is recommended. I think that the 1808 looks a bit cleaner but other than that I am not sure what the differences are. Both have sat capabilities and with a cable can accommodate an ipod. other than the two or three connector cables the swap looks pretty straight forward. Any suggestions on speaker upgrades or is that not necessary with the head unit upgrade. Thanks for the suggestions. Great forum. Phil

well, thank you for the bounty of information but at this point i am getting totally confused. Ar the newer units, the t1814 and t1815 the units of choice over the 1808 and 1809 head units? My intention is to install with an idod/iphone cord and a usb if possible. Don't really need the bluetooth, as I have a phone with that capability if I need. it. Thanks, scratching my head here in San Diego. Thanks phil

No. The earliest Scion unit to have bluetooth is the T1819.

Well, I am only speaking from looking at pics, but it looks like you don't get any better functionality from the 14 or 15 compared to the 08 or 09; they just look prettier (and decidedly less OEM, so keep that in mind if you care). The T181x models seem to be all about jazzing up their looks and not much else, while the T180x didn't care as much.
I will say that the T1809 is where they got all the features they wanted for a while and froze that (so they have FM1, FM2, AM, 1xCD, AUX, IPOD, and USB drive reads, able to read MP3/WMA/AAC format).
But again, I am only speaking from pics. And observations between my T1808 and my friend's T1814 (installed from factory with his xB).

I ended up buying both an 1808 and an 1819. After I bought the 1819 and ordered up the required cables to set it up I started adding up the costs and decided that I was into it over $300. I could almost get a Pioneer 5500 in dash DVD player with built in bluetooth. I decided to install the 1808 along with a $15 ipod cable. I put it in tonight, less than an hour start to finish. The 1808 works great and as mentioned by others, the head unit works great, sounds great. The color isn't an exact match, but it is still a shade of orange and fits well with the oem color. I picked up the 1808 for $20 plus shipping of $12 and the $15 ipod cable. Smoking deal and works great. I would highly recommend the 1808 as an inexpensive but substantial upgrade to the OEM head unit. By the way I have an 1819 if anyone is interested! thanks Phil
