T & H did the Job! Got hit today...
So, I'm driving today. Pulling up to a light in the right turn lane. The light is red and there is a lowered black GTI in front of me. She must have pulled too far into the intersection because all of a sudden she slams it in reverse and backs right into me (I was already fully stopped behind her). She was easily going 5mph.
Anyways, I felt pretty confident that my EuroTech bar could handle it so I just flipped her a bird and drove off. She's lucky I had that or she would be buying me a new bumper.
Damage?
My bull bar does not even have a scratch on it and the mounts are not bent at all. Her car... I could see the damage clear as day. Her bumper is dimpled in a few inches on each side. It will have to be replaced. What a dumb broad.
What's the point of all this?
To all those that have been asking me how the new design handles impacts: Very Well. (although I am still inimpressed (EDIT: unimpressed) with their light mount design)

I saw the report done by the NHTSB or whom ever did the crash tests for the 05 4Runners and the only test it did poorly on was the 5 mph bumper collision or something... I think it cost like $1500 or something to repair the damage, and that was to costly to be considered "good" so you're indeed lucky for that bullbar... makes me want to throw one on my rig.

How much does a "bull bar" cost? Is there any other purpose to it, or downside?

Bull bars range from $150 - $600. It protects in low speed collisions (perfect example here) and it adds a nice place to mount auxilliary lights.
Downsides:
Some people don't like the look.
Usually lessens approach angle.

Cleric, I remember asking you about the Eurotech and the lack of two upper mounts/supports. Sorry to hear that the inevitable happened, but I'm glad to hear that the bar held up and there's no front end damage to you at all. Kudo's to T&H.
No offense to any of the women on the board, but many of them can't drive. A woman back into me at the quarter panel in the parking lot and she says she didn't see me and then says she thought she hit a tree. RIGHT, a tree mysteriously uprooted itself and got behind her. I wasn't in a car either, I was driving the old minivan. What's more interesting is her insurance company accepted liability and told me, she's at fault and she pleaded with them for 45 minutes how it wasn't her fault and it was mine.

Cleric, if she files a police report, do you run the risk of leaving the scene of an accident?

Good to hear that it protected the 4R well, but did you really just drive off without checking for damage first? That's quite a bit of confidence...

I was thinking the same thing. I mean, the chances of her filing a police report would be slim given that it was her fault and there was minimal damage, but still...

Yes, there is a small amount of risk involved, but I'm really not worried about it. With my temper and the mood I was in that day, it's probably better that I left.

I would have to have gotten out. At the very least so I could yell at the other driver. I have been in a couple low speed "bumps" and I have gotten out every time.
As for the comments about how women cannot drive, I have to laugh out loud about that. While I agree that there are some pretty poor women drivers, I have come across even more male drivers with their heads totally up their asses. While women may have awareness issues in a parking lot or at a stoplight, men are equally unaware when they are going 70+ MPH...which is a lot more deadly.
I would take a bump in my quarterpanel over some idiot causing a NASCAR style crash on the interstate anyday.

This is exactly why I bought the Go Rhino 30" Hitch Step. I ws coming out of work and I saw a guy trying to park behind me. I saw my car jump and was like "I think he just hit my car!" He got out, looked at the front of his car, and started to walk away! I ran to my truck, noticed the scrapes in the paint on the hitch step, and the massively deformed front bumper and license plate. I call to him to come back over (I was still in my Deputies Uniform) and I calmly explained that could be considered "Leaving the scene of an accident." He looked scared as hell! That $70 for the hitch step definitly saved a ton in repair bills and headaches to me.

That and the bullbar will be my first "mods" before I let my 4R out to the battlefield.

Consider this: She files a police report and claims you ran into her! Unless you have a dashcam, you could be in a mudhole...
