Lowest Price over Invoice?

If you are reading my post you will see that I'm now in the market for a 06 4R Limited. What was your best price for yours?

Philly:

I got the following deal on the 2006 Limited V6 with Navigation:

Titanium silver, side curtain air bags, daytime running lites, rear spoiler, sunroof, tow hitch, in-dash 4 CD player w/mp3.

MSRP: $41,870

$35,986 plus tax, tags and $100 dealer processing.

Since I purchased my trucki on 12/22/05...toyota has now increased their rebate from $750 to $1500 and my dealer has raised their rebate from $500 to $750.

So essentially, I could have gotten the truck for an additional $1000 off. But I would have risked not getting the color and options I wanted.

FYI, I got my truck from Darcars of Silver Spring Maryland (Judy Rose, Internet Sales). Carmax of Laurel has exceptional deals as well.

Not far from Philly...definitely worth the drive! Hope this helps!

If you are actually in the Philly area, check over in NJ at Cherry Hill Toyota. I believe they have a sale of some sort going on now. Also, I will be down in Dover, DE next week and I can look down there for prices, if you want.

Just wondering - if I buy in DE can I buy tax free. Know it works for smaller items like clothes, etc. but never did it with a car. I would save $ 2400 on a $ 40K car (PA = 6% sales tax).

figured it was too good to be true. Thanks! You got the best deal I have heard of so far, good job. The bar has been set to a new height. Previously the best I saw was $250 over invoice.

I bought an '06 SR5 on December 29 for invoice minus the $750 rebate. I got it at Faulkner Toyota in Harrisburg. I called around and always asked to speak with the Internet Manager at Faulkner, Diehl Toyota in York and Savage Toyota in Hamburg (just north of Reading).

Originally, Faulkner wanted $300 over invoice, but I told them that Diehl and Savage both quoted me at invoice minus the rebate. Faulkner agreed to match the deal if I chose one from their lot. Harrisburg was a more convenient location for me to buy.

I've read in several different places (Edmunds.com is one of them) that getting price quotes through the Internet and dealing with the "Internet Manager" is oftentimes the quickest and easiest way to get the best price available. Dealers know that if you are getting quotes over the Internet, they need to be fairly aggressive up front because you may have a half dozen or so price quotes to choose from.

When I was shopping the last week in December 2 dealers in SoCal offered me a sport model for $700 under invoice, plus a $750 rebate for a total of $1450 under invoice.

Carmax has a Toyota new car dealership in Laurel Md which you can access through the Carmax site. On it, they have their complete inventory of 4-Runners, the MSRP, the Invoice and what they are selling the vehicle for. It's a good reference point when talking to other dealers in your area.

^^^^
I agree with that! CarMax ( http://www.carmax.com ) sells only used cars in our area (Central VA), but they do own Laurel Toyota in Maryland and their selling prices are excellent.

I would have used Laurel/CarMax if I were going to buy one, but I wanted to lease mine and CarMax does not do leases at the Laurel location. Even so, I was still able to get a good lease deal because of the Internet and also being a Costco ( http://www.costco.com ) member.
:awais:

Car buying is a shady business and you almost have to have some vulture or shark DNA within you.....or you'll get hosed. Don't feel sorry for the dealers, though, as it seems as though they prefer it this way.

I'm first trying cardirect.com to see what they can do. Price seem better than CarMax but will post results as I move forward. Funny to note how few Limited models CarMax has compared to others. Means nothing I'm sure except than more buy other versions, I guess.

I thought I was pretty good 3 years ago when I got $500 over invoice for my BMW 330xi. Now I see that UNDER Invoice is possible. Love the Net! Would really hate to be a car salesman or travel agent these days

+1 that "Car buying is a shady business" and I'm in Sales !!! Spent a few hours at the dealership on Sat and was in the need of a good hand washing afterwards. Side note: actually walked out of a Nissan place after being jumped on upon stopping by just to see what they had.

Thanks all for your comments.

Just got my 4Runner last week...
($MSRP/$Invoice)

06 Sport Edition V8 4WD (33630/29940)
Sunroof (900/720)
Airbags (650/559)
Spoiler (200/160)
Floor Mats (186/114)
Valor Exhaust Tip (69/42)
Destination (605/605)

Total $36,240 / $32,140

I paid $32,329 before Tax, Title, etc. By my calculations, that's $189 over invoice. My dealer had a different invoice listed in their computer ($32,729), which was basically the real invoice (found on Edmunds) + TDA (Toyota Dealer Advertising $579) and a Gasoline charge ($10). Based on what I've read, these fees were added in to pad the profit. Basically, I had to talk them down from their inflated invoice to get them closer to the actual true invoice.

If you haven't already seen one, ask to see the Toyota Vehicle Inquiry Report that the dealer has and check out the itemized fees at the bottom. The salesperson will try to confuse you with the definition or meaning of some of these fees, so if you're not already aware, here's what I found before walking in to make the deal...

The holdback and wholesale financial reserve are legit fees that are simply itemized on the vehicle report to show the dealer their potential profit (the dealer WILL get this money back later, but it is itemized for their records so they can see it in black and white). Don't worry, they're not double-dipping just because you see these fees itemized. Add up the numbers and you'll see the published invoice adds up correctly with Holdback and the Wholesale Financial Reserve included.

The Destination charge is also on the printout and is legit. Some people think it's negotiable, but I haven't ever heard of anyone being successful.

The TDA and gasoline charges are the things to scrutinize. This is because these fees are added to increase their profit margin and are not listed as included in the invoice on Edmunds. Of course, arguing with the salespeople is useless. They try to spin the story around and confuse you into thinking YOU have to pay for THEIR regional ad campaign (TDA=Toyota Dealer Advertising). Yeah right. And when when I pointed out that the window sticker on the 4Runner lists "full tank of gas" under Standard Equipment, they still didn't admit I was correct. So basically, don't waste your breath arguing about the meanings of the fees; simply come up with a price you can deal with that's close to invoice and let em have it. They can either take it or watch you walk to the next dealer that will accept it. After all, they should be happy to make a little profit and a quick deal. We're not dealing with a high-demand, fuel-sipping Prius here.

Out the door for my 4Runner with California tax, title, etc. totalled $35,326. (I opted for the 3.9% financing incentive, so this total does not include any cash back incentives). It's possible in some areas that you can talk them down to invoice or below, but I was satisfied with what I thought was fair. Hopefully this info helps you or others preparing to buy if you weren't already aware of these things. Good luck with the quest for your Limited.

I have a 2001 4runner SR5 with moonroof and I'm looking to upgrade to a 2006,v8,4wd sports, 4runner with moonroof, rear spoiler, 6 disc, dbl cargo with net.

The best deal I''ve found is from CarsDirect for $31,589 plus tax and tag after $1500 rebate.

A dealer has one with leather seats(TMV$1,120) for $33,828.

It seems to me that the dealer is not including the rebate in his price quote since the CarsDirect price plus leather would only be $32,709.

I'm I wrong to expect a dealer to be able to do this deal at $32,500 plus tax and tag?

Since I will be paying cash and have a trade (high miles so expecting $13000), does that hurt the deal?

Does anyone know if Toyota rebate will be extended since it ends Jan 9th?

Any assistance would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks.

I would think that you are NOT wrong. Call to confirm. Buty why not go with CarsDirect since they are about $1K less?

Here in PA the rebate ($1000) goes until Jan 31.

Also, most say get the price done before even mentioning the trade in.

Good Luck!
