I have not ever posted on this forum, yet I have watched for years and used this forum to many benefit. I have a 2005 Toyota 4runner Sport v8. I installed a Pioneer aftermarket head unit in my vehicle, and I enjoyed this for years.
After time the vehicle started to FOG up (yes, clean out the rails in the sunroof). However, this caused MORE problems than I could have ever forseen. I have fought a perpetual battle with Toyota and my vehicle on the aftermarket deck versus the JBL system than I could ever imgaine. So for those of you who run into a vampire ACC power draw, and your dash clock stay on, I hope this helps.
If you do not clean out your water tubes from the sunroof, moisture will leak into your vehicle. In mine, it leaked into the back area/deck of the vehicle. My cigarette lighter adapter is rusted at the bottom due to this. Likely the cause of an issue I will describe.
IF, you ever have a dash clock stay on, or your radio and the only thing you can do to turn it off is pop the hood and disconnect the Radio No.2 fuse. You have my issue.
Toyota will diagnose, and tell you a number of stories.... seek elswhere first as this is a FACTORY issue that could cost you $1000.00 plus...
With my aftermarket Pioneer (even factory head unit) I still received this issue.
BYPASS the Radio 2 fuse and power the JBL Amp seperately using the Modules that interface with it correctly.
There are some gremlins a foot here, and while the solution I describe above is short, brief and not in detail..... I am sure you will all ask me questions and details of what I have gone through. I still endeavor, vetting out the ROOT of the issue. However, if you run into this yourself, please email me at
[email protected] and I can give you guidance. I hope I can save you the 2 years worth of time I have spent fighting this battle.
