Looking at Buying

My wife and I are looking at buying a 2004 4Runner SR5 with the v6 in it. Actually found a 4wd that had the 3rd row seating in it lucky for us.

My question is, is there anything I should be on the look out for when test driving it? It has I believe they said 140xxx miles on it. They have it listed for $8995.

Thank you all

Sounds like a pretty good starting price. Check all the usual used car things, fluids, maintenance records, rust, carfax, etc. The V6's have been known to blow head gaskets, which is a very expensive repair (around $3k). Calipers are known to stick. Make sure 4lo engages as well as center diff lock works. You may also want to peruse this link. Pre-Purchase Info, Modifications, Write-Ups, Quick Links, and FAQ's

Yeah I knew of the head gaskets being a problem. I read through some of the faq, just didn't know if anyone knew stuff off the top of their heads

Other than for sticking calipers and 4L actuator sticking there isn't really any major issues. Mine has been great!

MPG is hard to say since many of us are lifted and using larger tires.

I don't mean to thread jack but I had some of the same questions. I'm looking at purchasing an 06 SR5, 4x4, v6 with 105k miles, 1 owner, starting price is $14,888. Located at a dealer here in Billings. We took it for a test drive and everything checked out nicely, couldn't hear anything out of the ordinary from the engine. We were thinking of offering $13,250. Fair?

You've got the upper hand buying at the end of the month. I'd offer $13k out the door and walk on them if they don't bite. They'll call you back.

I've got an 04 4x4 V6 with 155k. I drive roughly 80% highway. All stock components. We get roughly 17-18 mpg's
