First brake job - Can someone recommend rear brake pads for 2008 SR5 V6?

I'm going to be changing the rear brake pads on my 2008 4runner SR5 v6. It is coming up for inspection and I was told the rear pads are in need or replacement. The front pads are still good. I called the local Toyota dealerships for a set or rear pads and they are all quoting me anywhere from $50-80 for a set of Original OEM pads! Why do these cost so much? Is there a reason to go with the Toyota pads or can anyone recommend other brands that have worked well? Also, I'm not looking for any high performance stuff. Just good quality pads that work and function as well as the OEM. Thanks

Dave.

I've been using Wagner Brake parts (pads, calipers...etc..ect) for over 40 years. They make EXCELLENT equipment. Wagner make OEM parts for many manufacturers..and aftermarket parts. Toyota doesn't make brake pads. They are made for them by one of the large brake manufacturers. I wouldn't be surprised that Wagner isn't one of them.

Are you seeing lots of brake dust? I installed the EBC green stuff pads and they seen to throw more brake dust than I've ever seen.

I love the Akebono Pro-Act ceramic pads. I put them on my 3rd Gen with Brembo rotors and put them on my 4th Gen with Centric Premium rotors. I've recommended them to a few friends that have loved them as well.

I've been happy with Raybestos pads and rotors. Both their "Professional" grade and "Advanced Technology" grade.

I've only used OEM and EBC Greenstuff. Would recommend either. Been happy with them.

a "medium" grade set of pads will run you $40-$50 at your local auto parts store from my experience. The dealer of course will be putting a handsome mark-up on their parts.

Thanks for the recommendations. Does anyone know what the rear Toyota pads are made of? Are they ceramic, metallic, etc. I found the toyota pads for $46 shipped. Is it worth going with the Toyota pads if the price is equal? Are the non-toyota pads much better? Thanks,

Dave.

The non-Toyota labeled pads are good. The aftermarket pads are fine too. Shop for price. There's really no advantage in buying one or the other. The reason I rarely buy OEM pads is because of the cost. I can as good quality as OEM pads at usually half the cost of OEM pads.

I was just worried about fit with non-original pads but it seems like most people are happy with them and fit doesn't seem to be an issue. Thanks for all the help. I will shop around.

I've never seen or heard of any issue with fit on any aftermarket component....EVER.

Every aftermarket pad I ever bought over the past 40+ years fit PERFECTLY.

I have found the Toyota pads online for decent enough prices that I opted for oem.

I stuck with OEM pads for the rears since they lasted 120k miles (some with more miles are still using them). I got them from my local dealer which actually ended up costing less than what the local auto parts stores wanted for pads.
