Great info! This helps me a lot in picking springs.

Can someone tell me the OD of the rear springs and if they are double pigtail etc?

also what size are the front springs? 5.5"?

hello all, old timer back at it again due to blown leaky shocks.

old suspension set up:
FRONT: OEM FJ shocks and springs (not sure which version) DS 1 inch spacer.
REAR: OEM T4R shocks FJ springs and DS1.5 spacer.
RIDE: firm and comfortable, very satified huge improvement over stock correcting everything i didn't like about the 4Runner when i got it (soft, floaty, brake dip, rake)

new set up:
FRONT: 5100 (1.75) and FJ springs
REAR: 5100 FJ springs DS 1.5

results: ride height is about the same (forgot to measure before) BUT the ride is like pre old suspension. i am thinking about the getting swapping out the springs, i have out 100K miles on them.

looking for springs to firm up the ride without too much change to the ride height. a little lower is fine but going up isn't really what i want.

considering moog springs but do not which ones. any help would be great...thanks in advance.

So i am currently running superflex coils in the rear, and am considering a rear bumper which would be plus about 120 pounds. Would they be able to handle that weight? I know superflex are 10% stiffer than stock but i cant seem to find any information on their weight capacity.

Missing Table?

I swear the original post used to have a table of suspension values. I've SEEN it. I've been going crazy this morning trying to find it. I'm almost POSITIVE it was here. Does anyone know what I'm talking about? Or what's wrong? Or where to find it?

Someone from a previous post posted something about "Photo Bucket is down". Does it ever come back up? How often does it "go down"?

Those interested:
Toytec 2.5 fronts are 15" in length

A couple notes:
  1. The measurement for the OEM 4runner front coils is for a V8 4wd. The front coils on a v6 4wd are .2" shorter. 2wd 4runners use a different coil, but so far I haven't found specs on those. All models use the same rear coils.
  2. I couldn't find the spring rate for the front OEM FJ coils. I saw numbers all over the place, ranging from 530 lb / in to 630 lb / in. Most seemed to be in the 550 lb / in range, but from my experience the FJ coils are slightly stiffer than the OEM T4R coils, so that number doesn't add up.
  3. The 540 lb / in number for the Tacoma coils doesn't make sense either. I found the same number in several places (could have been all from the same source) so I posted it. Based on my experience, I'd say the Tacoma coil is stiffer than the FJ.
  4. Some aftermarket coils only show the % increase over stock, so I tried to calculate the spring rate. These numbers are in dark blue and in bold.

It's hard to compare the OEM FJ to Moog FJ coils since I don't have all the numbers. What I can tell is that front Moog FJ coils have the same spring rate as the OME 886 coils, which is very stiff. If I were to order Moog coils, I'd order the 4runner version (v6 or v8 depending on how much lift you want) for the front. I can't say on the rear since Moog did not provide the coil rate for those. I'd expect a minimum of 1" lift in the rear with the Moog coils based on the height. My only concern would be spring rate, and whether or not it'd be too stiff.

The majority of this data was pulled from the following pages:
Coil Rates - Toyota 120 Platforms Forum
Rear Spring Comparison - Page 13 - Toyota FJ Cruiser Forum

2004 sr5 4x4 daily driver and no extra body weight. Thinking of going with 5100 around and wheelers springs both front and back, no spacers. I understand these have a stiffer ride than stock and I don’t mind since I may use it for trails and camping. Anyone have this set up? What is the lift gain, my research is between 1-2” front and back. Just hoping to get a little extra lift than stock. Please advise if I need to set the front at a different perch to level/slight rake with the rear springs.

Thanks

i am amazed at the possibilities, and wonder for those with the stiffer rear springs, whether the rougher ride is OK as long as long as you are hauling increased weight, in other words looking for a definition of the trade-off (if that makes sense).

It's my first time posting on T4R.org so hello everyone. I bought an '03 V6 4wd last month and I'm ready for the lift. My plan was to put the FJ Moog coils up front with Bilstein's set at 1.75 and do the Eibach Pro-Truck 1'' lift coil in the rear with Bilstein's. But it seems like these Moog's might put me over the 3" lift mark. So what I'm trying to figure out is if I go Moog up front, should I go with T12 1.5" springs in the rear or the Eibach 1"? And would I need new UCA's? I would like to avoid that. I have not found any exact numbers for people using the Moog FJ's and setting it at 1.75. Factory FJ's are said to lift the front 1" plus whatever the Bilstein is set at, but it seems that these Moog FJ's are bigger than factory FJ. Side note: The goal is to fit 275/70r17 Wildpeaks. Thanks in advance.

I updated the spreadsheet with some new-ish info. Icon told me that their rear 2" springs have a spring rate of 200lbs (he could have been rounding down from 207); he also told me that the 3" dual-rate springs are 200 over 300 (which may also be rounded).

There are now several types/sizes of Superflex springs, I'm waiting to hear back from Toytec about their specific spring rates.

FYI, I contacted Eibach for more info on their springs, and they provided the following:

E30-82-073-01-20 front coils
Free length = 360mm, Rate = 720 lbs/in, Wire size = 17mm

E30-82-073-01-02 rear coils
Free Length = 373mm, Rate = 205 lbs/in, Wire size = 15.5mm

E30-82-073-02-02 rear coils
Free length = 382mm, Rate = 250 lbs/in, Wire size = 16.5mm

I was surprised at the spring rate on those front coils, so I asked again just to confirm, and yes they are 720 lb springs. Those are dang heavy (24% over stock) but the Eibach rep. said with the Tacoma overlanding crowd they had a lot of people asking for increased rates to compensate for heavy gear (bumpers, winches, sliders, etc.).

You ever hear back from Toytec with data on their springs?
