Mini H1 6.0 Retrofit
Working on my retro fit following what
@ A_HuL
did - mini h1's, gattling 2.0 shroud with a few twists. Red demon eyes and white morimoto xB halos
I'll be blacking out the bezel and housing soon. Here's a teaser!

Painted the shrouds today, used bleach to strip the chrome off and it worked pretty well. Painted a bezel too
Debating if I should lightly tint the halos??
Mocked up demon eyes with 3 LED SMD strips and will likely paint the shields red as well.
Halo mock up:
Here's how I mounted the halo. So what I did was push the wires out of the clip and push the wire through an existing hole on the gattling 2.o shroud, then used some heat shrink over the wires of the halo to keep them together

Nah, I think it's gonna be perfect. I may ditch the red leds and go with just shield painting.
I'm really torn about what to do with the high beam reflector (don't tell me to put another projector in it, I'm broke )
Should I black it out and throw a bulb in there anyway? Should I paint it a metallic black or high gloss so it's reflective? Or should I leave it chrome? I hate chrome but I think it may be black overkill. Any suggestions?

i have a body shop that does 90% of the bodyshop work for mainline BMW. they always have headlamps with hella e55 projectors to harvest. i actually have a broken fx35 healight in the garage that needs a projector harvested out. might have something for you, in the next few days.

That could be awesome. Keep me posted, I'll hold off on doing anything to the high beams

I'd paint them black, even if you don't slap a projector in there.
And it's the off-season. Leg shaving is such a PITA wait until the cycling season begins!

Problem is, then I lose that light output from the lack of reflector. I'm thinking maybe I'll clear coat them for a reflective finish

leave the highs alone and have quad high beams, otherwise just leave it alone till you have the e55 from gshadow325. you can always do this too, move the mh1 to the highs later on and put the e55 in the lows.

I'm using the mini H1's as H+L
If I get the e55's (IDK if i can afford new bulbs and stuff at this juncture, i guess I could go DDM again) I'd run quad low beams and quad BX highs.
For now, I think I'm going to paint the high beam reflector gloss black then I can add the projector accordingly or use the reflector halogen and the BX high beam from the mini h1's
Sound good?

so the projector will be turned on with high beam, along with the original high beam in the other part of the light? sweet. I'm glad you're getting rid of the gay ebay lights, but you are ruining these with Halo's.
detail everything, where you got everything, and every step of the way. I might be interested in doing the same thing

Harsh on the halos man! To each his own.
I'll be updating this thread. The final plan is to keep it pretty simple with the halos and demon eyes. I really like the red glow and it'll match my other red accents, like the TRD on my wheels and my soon to be red recovery shackle.
In essence, bixenon projectors (not sure if this is redundant/you know it but i'll explain anyway) use a solenoid with a plunger that yanks down the cutoff shield, opening up the "upper" portion of the light beam for high beams. Since HIDs take so long to warm up, they are a poor choice for reflector style high beams, so BX is #1.
So the high beam harness now plugs into the BX solenoid, instead of triggering a bulb, it triggers the plunger, releases the solenoid and more light goes through the shield.
What I'm saying it I will tap the high beam wires, split the signal, run a 9005 halogen high beam AND the high beams from the BX projector. SInce I have the BX high beam, I don't care too much about the high beam reflector being bright. I also have my 40" led bar on my roof for when I really need light.
