April reminder, one day early.

Drove mine last night, used 4hi 4lo, and locker. All engaged within 2 seconds of activation!

May bump

No kidding, my truck was parked for 2months. Took it wheeling last saturday, Center diff wouldnt lock. It eventually kicked in after 20mins of trying.
I bought the truck 3 years ago without a working 4lo btw. Already went thru this ordeal. I miss the 3rd gen manual shift t-case.

Cycled thru all of them on my wife's 2007.
Been a few months since I last did due to work schedule and yikes... first attempt was unsuccessful into 4Lo, but the 2nd attempt worked thankfully.
drove around the parking lot a few laps and cycled it back to 2Hi.

Changed my diff and transfer case oil. At first it didn't make a difference as engaging 4WD was slow, but after about 500 miles and rechecking this month it engages within two blinks.

Thanks for the reminder. Im headed out this weekend and just had my 120k done but still going to kick on the locker today just to be sure. I think that the auto 4wd might be my only real gripe about my 4th gen. Nothing substitutes feeling the thing move into place.

Engaging 4lo

I'm having trouble engaging 4lo in my 2009 4Runner. I can get it into 4H just fine, but when try 4lo th 4lo light flashes and beeps. I am putting it in neutral first and then switching from 4h to 4L. There has to be a thread about this somewhere but I just can't find it via search. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

Just keep trying dg, mine wouldn't do it for the longest time. Finally one day it engaged.

I'm pretty good about engaging the 4Lo and center locker on a semi regular basis, but recently the actuator has been MUCH louder when engaging into 4LO. Im wondering if i can grease it or is the answer to change the transfer case fluid?

Just wanted to say 'thanks' for this thread. My 4th gen is new to the family, and this got me to actually put a monthly reminder in my phone. Did my bit on the first and drove around a bit in 4Lo, and with the diff lock on.
Definitely know these problems happen because the dealership I bought the truck from a couple of months ago had to replace the actuator hardware due to it being seized right before before I picked it up - seems the PO never used it.

I wish I had thought to check 4 low before buying my 4Runner. The dealer I bought it from did not test and did not replace the actuator. So now I'm going to have to deal with it myself. Luckily I did buy a 3 year bumper to bumper Warrenty.

I can tell you that they weren't amused to have to replace it. ;) I made sure to check 4Lo & the diff lock before signing off on it when I went to pick it up - thanks to this site for cluing me in on that! Good that you have the warranty at least!
