drivers window catching - '04 4Runner
There is a slight catch in the drivers door window when going down. Does not do it on the way up. Also, it does not catch if the door is open. Only when it is closed.
I removed the door panel and did not see any obvious reason for the catch.
Anyone know what this could be or experience this problem?

remove panel again rehook window switch closed door and operate the window that way. see what it is doing. also wipe the track down pretty well and use white lithium to lube mechanical parts. If it is still doing that your window regulator maybe on the fritz.

My 08 does the exact same thing. I have an extended warranty and last time I had it in at the dealer for other things, they supposedly fixed it, but still does the same. Been doing it for 30k miles though, so I don't think it's going to break.

Drivers window
Mine does the exact thing and has for 100,000 miles... I have 225,000 on her now... But mine stops 1/2 down only when wet! If I go to a car wash or it rains it stops until dry. I sprayed some WD and it got a little better but it rained last night and sure as %&#! it stopped today. It's OK here in AZ as it hardly rains... But I'm moving to Florida next week and it's gonna be a problem.... Ideas/suggestions...??? Thanks! Bob

From my research (my truck does this too), it's called a door check. Part number 6862035020 - Door check Left. Pops only when going down, and if door is open, it won't happen. These apparently get old and brittle and or break if the door is flung open with too much force. Thereafter, the window hits it on the way down. Do you also notice the driver door is likely to close on its own? Mine does if it's on the slightest incline.

Yep - POPS only when going down. I'll check it in the morning with the door open. The door definitely does NOT close unless I'm on a steep incline. Thanks!!

QUESTION... Why does it only happen when the door is wet...??? Raining or car wash...

As ARunner stated, it's your "door check". When the door is open, the door check is fully extended and therefore OUTSIDE of the door internals. When the door is closed, the door check is INSIDE the door internals and VERY CLOSE to the window. Sometimes, when the door gets hyper-extended, or "thrown" open, the door check will bend and begin obstruct or "hit" the window as the window goes down its channel. You need to remove your door check and straighten it out. Yes, this happened to me. One cold windy night, two years ago, I was opening my door on the beach and a gust caught it, and ripped it out of my hand, throwing it open extremely hard, hyper extending it. My door check was bent beyond repair, cauising a "popping" sound when opening the window or outright stopping it from fulling opening. Anyway, good luck, and PM me if you need any help with removing it!

4-runner drivers window catching
Thanks for the conformation. I had the same problem and my local Toyota dealer originally mis-identified the problem as a defective window motor & window regulator. After reading several blogs on this website, I replaced the mentioned part and the problem is solved. Thanks again!

2008 4Runner door check scratches window tint.
So I bought a new door check and it was easily replaced. But it still pops on the way down and scratches the tint right off. Nothing looks bent. But for sure the door check is touching the window when the door is closed. Any ideas.
