What really is the mileage on a V6, 2WD?

What kind of mileage is typical of a V6, 2WD, 2004 or newer 4 Runner?

Fuel mileage per gallon, not how many miles per year. I thought most would understand.

I think you can easily get 18-19mpg maybe even higher. I'm getting on average 17mpg (see signature) on a V6 4WD. Take the extra weight of the 4WD components off and you can realisticallyhit 18-19 or higher.

New SR5 V6 milage

I'm getting 19 mpg on my new 06 SR5 V6 4WD, about 90% city driving. The dash display shows 19.6 but my calculated number is a little lower.

I only have 1000 miles on it so far. After the 13 mpg I got on my old '97 Mountaineer, I'm pleased with this number. From what I read, it should get better as it breaks in.

Just wondering do you have an example or two of what you mean by "a little lower"?

In past discussions on the subject I seem to remember that the calculated mileage versus the AVG MPG Display on the dash was 11-13% lower. (For example, with a 12% difference your 19.6 mpg would calculate out to 17.25 mpg. ) If your calculated versus AVG MPG display is not that far apart I am wondering if Toyota made some changes in how the AVG MPG display on the dash works.

That's exactly what I've gotten out of my V8 Sport over the last 14k miles.

To the original poster of this thread: Stop trying to instigate another debate and please stop beating this dead horse....

I've seen folks with V6's report as low as 15mpg and as high as 24-25mpg (I think their calculator was broken, but that's just my opinion).

What matters more is how you drive it. If you have a lead foot, expect mid-teens... If you drive like a grandma downhill, with a tailwind, in both directions of your round trip, then you'll get 24-25mpg.

Ricky

Actual mileage

I'm seeing almost exactly 1.1 mpg difference between the dash display and my calculated numbers. The dash being higher, of course.

Being a senior citizen (making me a minority on this forum), I'm not a lead foot, but I drive the limits or above and I do stay well ahead of the Grandma that some else here suggested. It's hard not to take advantage of the power and handling once in a while. Too much fun!

I've calculated mileage on 2 tankfulls so far and got 18.4 and 18.6 mpg. My commute is not very congested so not a lot of stop and go. Just the usual city traffic lights.

06 SR5 V6 4WD.
