Custom Exhaust

Recently my exhaust has come loose from my muffler from the back end. I believe all I need is a new muffler. With that being said, I wouldn't mind if my 05 sr5 had a little pur to it without breaking windows. Can I just get a performance muffler without worrying about a whole new exhaust system? I am not a car guy and am new to car mods. I'm on a limited budget and not really concerned with an increase in horsepower. Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks.

You defintely can upgrade without full replacement.

My question would be "why did it come loose?"

If its because of rust, you definitely want to inspect the entire system. It might be a good idea to replace the everything if what you have is too far gone.
A good muffler should run you about $100-$150, plus $50 for install depending on where you go. They should be able to re-use most of your existing exhaust pipe assuming its useable.

I would recommend a Flowmaster 50 Series. You can buy one from Summit online if your local muffler place doesn't have one. They'll probably have Flowmaster 40 series or super 44's. Those tend to be a little loud for most members, but some like the extra sound.

Thanks. Found a shop that can definitely install. Think flowmaster from what I've read might be a little louder than I'm looking for. Some people have recommended magnaflow or thrush. I do some highway driving and don't want a headache in the cab.

I have the 50 SUV on my truck and its not loud at all IMO. Actually when I had it installed I was kinda bummed out because it sounded almost stock. After about two weeks of break in it sounds just a little bit beefier than stock. Thats just my take.

Just remember that each brand has different series, i've heard some thrush mufflers that are very very loud.

I'm defintely not pushing the Flowmaster, but this video sold me on the muffler I purchased.

This magnaflow clip doesn't sound bad either....

I've never tried it but I deliver aftermarket auto parts for a living and a few muffler shops have had good luck with the Dynomax VT. I'm a little skeptical from reading reviews saying the valve flaps and makes a rattle sound but that was a while back and supposedly they've fixed the problem. A few local muffler shop owners race at Lakeside Speedway and have a rep around town so I trust their opinion. They haven't installed many but haven't had any problems with the ones they have done. One shop a guy installed one over a year ago with no issues so I assume one made recently would be fine, besides they have a lifetime warranty on them.

I've got a 14" Magnaflow on mine with a tad too much drone for my taste, but a longer case would be fine.
