Question Stink less with Top Tier Gas?

I don't know if anybody else thinks this, but I seem to get less of a sulfer stink through my back window when I use Top Tier gas.

Yesterday I had the trailer hooked up, and rolled down the back window. Then I punched it going up a freeway ramp. The smell was there, but significantly reduced. I did the same thing without the trailer too.

Has anybody else noticed this?

I try to use only gas from QT or Chevron, which are both Top Tier rated - but I have no clue as to their sulfer content. If my percption is reality, then maybe there's something to Toyota saying the stink has more to do with the gas.

(I also wonder if it has to do with any of the gas additives. In the winter they put different things in there for pollution, etc.)

I've posted before that when I was using "premium" (93 octane) gas, the sulfur smell was less. When gas prices rocketed, I switched back to "regular" (87 octane). Most times I fill up at the Exxon since it is close to my house and usually has cheaper gas compared to the other stations near my home.

I've never run 87 in my V8, always 93 or 89, and I have never had the sulphur smell.

I've read Exxon has the highest sulphur content. Plus most of the oil they refine is from the Middle East.

I always run Citgo (another wacko dictator), BP or Phillips66. I usually rotate the brand at each fillup.

I more often than not use QT and I can prob. count on one hand the number of times ive had the sulfer smell. But, when I fill up somewhere else (non top tier) I really cant tell a difference.

I've used gas from Top Tier stations a few times and never noticed the sulpher smell when I did. In the interest of full disclosure, I didn't do any serious tests with the windows and the gas pedal down. I "think" they reduce the smell, but have no hard data to prove this either way.

For what it's worth I've run 87, 89 and 92 octane fuel from non-Top Tier distributors and had the smell with all of them. I don't think it's an octane issue, although it might be a blend or additive problem, as Toyota asserts. I just can't say one way or the other at this point. Once the weather gets a bit warmer I'll do some tests and post the results.
