Anyone ever run into the issue where you couldn't install the block-off plates because the bolts were too rusty? I can't even put a 10mm wrench on them. The wrench just spins. If they were easy to get to, I'd just cut them. But that's not possible given their location. My 08 left me sit earlier this week with a valve stuck open. It looks like I'll be unloading about $2,100 at the dealer soon

No, but heat followed by PB etc, Gatorgrip socket, pounding on next size down (10mm or 3/8"), Vice Grips, etc have gotten out bolts in worse shape than that for me

You can check out Hewitt Tech website and ask Paul(owner) he has a new system that I think allows you to remove entire system @~$500 range. Most people just leave it and bypass it.(easy/cheaper/no real advantage to remove)
Thanks. And yes for that price I’ll just bypass. Will order today. Thanks again.

Effect on emissions test?

I just got my '07 V8. Been reading a lot on this subject here on the forum. I don't have symptoms of a failing pump or valves yet, but I'm considering a preemptive bypass install to avoid any issues in the future. My question: has anyone had an issue passing emissions inspection after installing? I'm in PA if that makes a difference. Thanks.

According to PA DMV, the test is a plug in OBD2 test. As long as you aren't throwing a code you should be fine. PM if you want a shop reco for emissions.

Hey slyfox, just became the new owner of an 06 GX470. So far everything is great mechanically, but I want to ensure this engine lasts forever.

Given that I don't have any CEL or currently have any shopvac sounds at startup, I don't think I have any issues currently. Also, the car has lived in the bay area its whole life so probably not a lot of cold-weather starts.

I'm ready to get your kit, but just want to know whether I also need to install the plates. I'd prefer to "do it the right way", but unclear if the plates are needed if the system is otherwise working normally. Thanks for your help mate.

Reyes. Congrats on the new GX.
You do not need the plates. You can get and install but not needed in your situation(no limp mode).
Email me at jeffcolemaps at gmail for ordering info.

I've had the SlyFox bypass on my 2005 V8 SR5 for the last 3 inspections with no issues. 220k miles and running strong with no codes or issues.

I just purchased a 2008 V8 4Runner. Before I go ahead and purchase a bypass, how can I find out there is one already installed from the previous owner? And is Slyfox’s kit compatible with 2008 MY?

Look around MAF sensor and/or in the relay box above drivers side fender well. I replied to your email, just wanted to answer here as well for people reading through this in the future.

I was having the shop vac noise at a cold start. I ordered the kit from slyfox75 and it arrived fast with great instructions. I confirmed the installation was successful with a voltmeter and the noise is gone. Very happy I did this and thanks to Jeff for the kit to prevent an expensive repair down the road.

Slyfox, any thoughts?

yes, I had answered the 2008 question directly with him as well. No issues with 2008 4R or GX, many working fine in the field. The bypass will work, but leave a CEL light on the 2008 Tundras and Sequoias.

Hi Slyfox75,

I have an 06 Sport 4.7L and interested in buying your kit and the plates. Haven't had this problem yet, but would like to install it as a preventive measure. I sent you an email with my info.

Thanks,

Jad
