Are they saying this just to cover their butts?

Seems that if system is still operational, simply disabling the pump via the bypass module should be all that is necesary.

Any credence to Rutech's claim?
Please don't take anything Rutech says as factual. He did not design what he is selling and his units are made in China regardless of what he claims. He simply sells them and does not understand how the system actually operates.

So I had this issue with my 05 gx 470 with the pump being stuck and the relay a? po418 or whatever. I ordered the rutech off ebay for 200 and saw I also needed the pump proxy kit, I called Hewitt and they said rutech copied them and it should work together just fine? Can anyone concur?

I ordered a AIP bypass kit from Jeff Coleman (slyfox75) for $48 from this site. He sent me email confirmations. I installed it in my wife's GX470. It took less than 15 minutes to do and it was silly easy to do! No need for "plug-and-play" kits. Anyway, my CEL went away and no more AIP problems! Thanks Jeff!

I don't know, but I believe I'm having issues with my Rutech as I've been hearing my pump kick on when I start the 4R lately. And here I thought the Rutech was supposed to completely keep it off when the 4R starts. I'm also wondering if it is linked to the starter in any way as I've been having issues with my 4R not turning over right away. It's VERY hit or miss. I installed the Rutech before pump failure so I may take it out along with the plates and see if my starting issue keeps up. If it does then I'll swap the starter. Weird because I get more issues after going thru water. Nailed it down to starter, Rutech failure (since my pump is also turning on, which it shouldn't), or possibly the parking switch. Things that make you go hmmmmm

I really can't understand why most are so resistant to change the airpump. Its not that bad of a job.

I got the labor, starter, airpump, rad hoses, gaskets, fluid and any misc items that came up for under 700.00.

Now i never have to worry again or have to deal with extra wiring.

Well let’s see
~$50 bypass, 1 wire and 10 mins to be done.
Or
$700 an entire day for most people AND have same system that failed you once already.

THATS why we all bypass.

Sounds like you replaced the pump. That is typically one of 2-3 failure points within the system. Hopefully you cleaned the ASVs and other components as they clog with crap and eventually fail.
It was smart to replace the starter while you were in there for sure.

Nothing like this has happened to me yet but im both happy there is a long thread about this topic but also unhappy that it seems common enough to cause worry.

The Rutech and other bypasses will cause a P011B Temperature Correlation code on the 08 and newer vehicles. There was a change in how the computer does this test starting on the 08 model year vehicles. We have a specifically designed bypass kit for the 08 and newer vehicles for this reason.

We are alse getting ready to release our Next Gen units that will cover all the 4.0L engines up to the current model years. They operate completely different than the current units and are completely plug and play with no need for a connection to the MAF, IAT or the starter relay. They essentially replace the Air Injection Control Driver and connect to the ECM inputs there and of the air switching valves. If you add one of our pressure sensors to the kit for a 4.0L or two for a 5.7L you can completely remove every component of the system.

Happy Customer

I installed my SlyFox bypass last night. 15 minutes. Stopped the screaming shop vac sound. I'm so happy.

For anyone else considering this or wondering if they have the same problem, My car engine "made the awful noise" whenever it was cold. Cold is relative in my case. It would do it in the summer and winter whenever it had been sitting a while.

Plates now available.

Forum.......wanted folks with V8s to know I now sell the blockoff plates(4.7 and 4.6/5.7 if you have another platform in your arsenal). Another source used to sell the plates individually so I sent many of you that direction to help you get the parts you needed. That source has since decided to stop selling the plates individually. For those that want to save a little money and still fix your system, the plates are $40 for the pair. The bypass is still $48. $88 complete kit. Most don't need plates but some want them anyway for complete solution. If you have Tundra, Seq, LX, GX and obviously 4R, just let me know yr /model and I can get you setup. 2005-2012 V8s.
