worn door and fender flares
I have a 2003 4Runner Limited with glossy black flares that have faded or been buffed with something to show wear.
Does anyone know of a product that can bring back the matching black color? Are these flares painted plastic??

Yeah, just started noticed the upper edge of the fender flare on my driver's side is fading worse than the others, you can almost see the paint cracking and fading at the top edge.
*Sigh* I was hoping to put off re-painting for a couple more years.

I've got the same issue on my 04. All of the painted plastic parts are showing signs of fading (fender flares, tailgate trim, hood scoop trim, front grill, mirrors). Any ideas on cost to get the fender flares repainted?

Yup, my '05 Galactic Gray fender flares are also fading right at the top lip, where the flare meets the sheet metal fender. I am the original owner and have PATHOLOGICALLY waxed every two to three weeks since the day I bought it in February 2005. Not a complaint, per say (accept maybe about the Texas sun), but I too am not sure what I am going to do about this..... maybe nothing. Not sure.

Perhaps just buy Blue and Red Body Clips, remove the fenders, sand them to plastic, primer, and then pain with flat black and/or rhino liner?

I just replaced my hood scoop insert on the 07 due to rusted studs/nuts and it was fading badly. Could nave lived with the fade, but really, should that have happened in just seven years?
Fender flares are not bad i think, and y'all have me not wanting to go look too closely now............

No. I'm too emotionally attached for that dramatic of a change. It would be like Mrs. Preacher getting plastic surgery to her face and it makes her look like a different person (OK, too dramatic?).

sounds like more of a common problem that I was aware of... My left side, doors to front rear fender are fading right at the top where it meets the metal as well. Right side looks awesome!
Not a big fan of taking all flares off to rhino them since I like how they match the paint and their sheen. Looks like I will live when them until someone has a solution.
You will probably laugh, but I have actually considered a permanent black marker for them. Not sure if it would match and last at all.. Just thinking outside the box so I don't have to repaint them.

I mean I guess if you taped everything off you could just plasti-dip or repaint the fenders with them on the vehicle. I just tend to be a bit detail oriented so taking them off and stuff makes me feel better.

The paint is gone. It is time to take them off and have them professionally painted. They should be cleaned to remove all oils and wet sanded. A lot of shops will just shoot them and you will see your paint peeling in a matter of weeks.

I plan on doing this but I want it line-x'd. Id love to do it soon but it's expensive plus I want to wait for them to get worse so maybe in the next two years.

I don't like the flat black or rhino options since my truck body looks so good for its age. I like that they match the body and I was hoping for a quick fix... bummer. They are only faded a the top of 4 flares, so I may have to live with it until I can't bare it any longer.
thanks for all the input

If the fenders are similar to the 2002 Prerunner Taco that my wife has, I used a few things on that. she spoke to an ex detail guy, and tried a bottle of olive oil. that was weeks ago, it still looks good in our 90-100 degree weather.
