Tailgate rust

I had to do something with the rust popping up on the tailgate but was not ready to replace it all together yet. So I came up with this temporary fix.

Untitled

Sanded it all down as good as I could get it.

Added a little filler.

Untitled

Then covered it up with some vinyl wrap in a matte silver finish

looks good. I have the same problem and will probably tackle it the same way, but I will paint it instead of vinyl wrapping it. From your sanding picture, looks like the rust went pretty deep.

Yes it was all the way through. It will be back. I would say the only true way is to replace the tailgate. That is just a little to much for me right now. I am thinking about taking the interior trim off and using some Por-15 in there to slow it down.

So glad I don't live in the north... But that repair looks great, the wrap adds character

By the way, to prevent the liscense plate rubbing, I bought some felt pads at the hardware store and glued them to the back of the plate. It stopped the rattling also
