Tacoma TRD suspension swap (XREAS vs. TRD)

I tried to research this thoroughly on some of the forums and found some helpful information. Thought I would share my experience since I just did this swap from stock XREAS to the Tacoma TRD components with FJC rear springs. The truck has just over 56k miles. (By I, I mean a local shop did it for me. I got scared by taking apart XREAS.)

I found 2014 Tacoma TRD front springs & shocks and rear shocks locally. The guy drove his truck from the dealer lot straight to have a lift installed. Everything looked brand new with a total of 30 miles.

The rear shock eye bushing from the Tacoma needs to be changed out with this:
Amazon.com: Energy Suspension 9.8108G 3/4" Hourglass Shock Eye Bushing: Automotive
Other than that, everything swaps over cleanly.

I ended up with ~1.25" lift up front and ~0.50" lift for the rear. I didn't use any spacers. It definitely sits more level. I haven't driven enough to comment on the ride yet, but hope to get on some trails this weekend.

Top pic is before, bottom is after.

Thumbs up

My very first impression when driving the truck on the highway was "Hmmm, not sure this is better than before??"

I have about 200 miles on it now and, after bumping around on some forest service roads yesterday for several hours, I can say it is an improvement over the stock XREAS set-up. It was noticeably a better ride off-road right away and when we got back on the highway, that seemed nicer too. May have just needed some break-in. Most importantly, my wife is happy with it

I'm happy with the swap at this point.

Thanks for bringing your truck by our shop! Your truck is impeccably clean, I'm a little jealous

We noticed the truck sat much more level, which was a big plus since the front was raked lower than the rear. I would suggest this upgrade to anyone looking for a nice ride offroad feel, as well as the lowered cost of a Non-Xreas system.

Cheers!
Josh
