AC Cycling, temp getting warm/cold

05 v8....have searched and know the compressors cycle on and off, but the temperature gets warmer(not hot) than cold as it kicks back on
Also the rpm's go up/down as it cycles on and off, you can notice it at a stoplight

I assume the temperature fluctuating isn't normal, but don't think there's a leak since it still gets cold
any ideas?

hopefully the compressor isn't going out

If you A/C is kicking on and off, and it has been doing this for a while, I do not think that your compressor is going out. Granted, this could be a number of issues. It wouldn't be a bad idea to check your in cabin "thermistor" (read temp. sensor) which is a tiny black "vent" looking doohicky, just to the lower right of your steering column. It can get clogged with dust and crap. If it has gone bad, it's only a $25.00 part. It is part# 88625C in this diagram:

Good luck!

I would check the amount of freon in the system. A bad thermistor would make the Temps in the car unstable. It would need to be at coolest song to get the air to come on, or highest setting to get the heat to come on.

A compressor doing cycles like that from past experience is low on freon.

Hmm ok
I'll get the freon level checked then

From what I've read that sensor is only in action when you have it on auto, the air is always on the LO setting so don't think thats being utilized but I'll check it anyways

I have the same problem after i added a can of freon yesterday. I search here and they say to unplug and plug the a/c clutch relay or swap it with the fog lights relay.. relay part number is (90987-02028). I will check mine tomorrow
