Reclining rear seat back

Has anyone either tried or found a way to modify the angle of the seatback? Some of the SUV's I looked at had this as a feature which the 4Runner did not. I bought the 4Runner anyway because I think it is so much better...but that seat back is something I'd love to have for my kids on long trips. Thanks.

Me too! I love how the second & third row can can all recline. I found this out while I was messing with the seats for the very first time. We also get similar (bigger) headrests (like the driver and front pass.) for the second row left and right seats too. Don't know why though.

If you don't have the 3rd row seats then you're second row does not recline.

With the third row seats, the second row fold forward differently to allow access to the 3rd row seats. This design also allows the second row seats to recline.

Does anyone know if it is possible (through a simple plug and play type installation) to put the 2nd row seats that were meant for a 3-row 4Runner into a 2-row 4Runner? It would be nice to have 2nd row seats that recline....

regardless of wether it can be done that would be awful expensive just to recline rear passenger seats.

i don't think it's possible to install the reclining 2nd row seat on the car without 3rd-row seat option... at least in the practical sense. Cuz 2nd row seat and the cargo area - and the hardware that latches the seats - are very different between the two. you can always trade-in ur car for the one with 3rd row seat, though. Toyota does have one of the highest resale value.

i removed the third-row seats, and wrapped with vinyl cover and stored in my basement on the first day i purchased. some poor guy will have to pay premium for my BRAND-NEW 3rd seat, when i sell my car few years later

i remember the thread about the 2nd row seat not locked to the floor properly and some concerned it might be a safety hazard. the 2nd row that comes with 3rd row option doesn't have that problem. you can hear the 'chunk' sound that securely locks the seat to the floor. i guess that's another benefit of going with 3rd row option. but the downside is, 3rd row seat does not come with toneau cover so if you want to hide something in the cargo area, you are out of luck, although the privacy glass does the job just fine for me. oh, and the parking mirror that sorta helps the driver when going in reverse, it's not available with 3rd row seat option. that's another trade-off.
