Am I being over charged?
I had to leave my 4runner at good year overnight because my turn signals stopped working and needed all new sockets and I had to get an oil change also. I asked them to take a look at my brakes because I knew it was close to being that time for new ones. The guy said I needed 4 new brake pads and that would cost 600 with labor. Am I being ripped off or is that a fair price. Any help is appreciated.

Is that just installing new pads? Even if they are turning the rotors that is very high. That's $200.00 per wheel! You can buy new OEM pads and rotors for less than that.

The pads are very simple to replace if you have any mechanical skills. The rotors are very simple as well.

Is the $600 counting replacing all of your "sockets"?
Not sure what you even mean by that...

I went to Goodyear recently for an oil change and also got quoted a bit over $600 for brakes. It was new pads, rotors, and flushing/refilling the brake fluid. Bought quality pads and rotors for under $200 (only doing the front, back still has 6mm and wears slower) and am replacing with a friend. If I didn't have someone to help me, I have still gathered that it is way too high. I would buy the parts myself and take it to a good local shop with a decent labor rate.

Well that makes more sense if he's bleeding/flushing the brake lines, but $600 is still insane. I remember when Toyota quoted me $400 to change 6 spark plugs, I laughed as I hung up the phone

Well I messaged a fellow member on here that lives in Houston and he gave me his friends number at an auto shop and they quoted me 425. I might find a break shop for under 300

If you have a place to work I'll do it for free. Just buy the parts.
I can do pads and rotors, but no flush.

I spent little less than $900 to get all new pads, rotors and the two front calipers replaced. I used all high end OEM parts. OEM makes two sets of pads for the front. I went with the better ones.
Many on here think I spent too much. I think I got a good deal. The dealer wanted $1100 and that did not include the calipers. I paid my son $250 to do the work which is included in the $900 total.
It took him a while and it wasn't real easy, but definitely not hard either. He was glad it needed new calipers. Actually made it less work to replace them than to reinstall the old ones. They were around $90 each.
I ordered all my parts from Daytona Beach Toyota. I wanted all OEM, but I know there are cheaper ones that are also good. I really like the way it brakes since having this done. I had no idea they were as bad as they were. I would go all OEM again if I had it to do over. Less risk.

Oh yeah. Unless you have over 200k on the vechicle I think flushing the brake fluid is a waste of money. Maybe even if it has over 200k. Just a way for shops to make money. Just my opinion, but shared by the mechanic I was going to use.

What do you mean by high end oem? Which parts did you get?

I paid less than $300 on Amazon to buy four new Centric Premium rotors and Akebono pads all around. I did the work myself, which wasn't difficult, and my brakes have worked perfectly ever since, i.e. no squealing, squeaking, or vibration.
