Sport Suspension

Our Sport Suspension needs replaced, the mechanic says most people replace with regular shocks and struts. Has anyone done this? How is the ride different?
Is it worth replacing all the sport suspension system?

@Ronda Trimble , The reason "most people replace" their Sport Edition suspension with "regular shocks and struts, is because the stock "XREAS" suspension is a system of hydraulic lines that link the for shocks together which essentially prevent your truck from "leaning" in turns, and thus, it is EXTREMELY expensive to replace OEM. Aftermarket shocks/struts are much more affordable. I just replaced my XREAS with Bilstein 5100/Toytec coils in the front and Bilstein 5100 shocks/Toytec Superflex springs in the rear. Granted, the new setup does not resist "leaning" quite as well as the OEM XREAS system, but going over bumpy or rough terrain is a dream. Basically, XREAS handles better when cornering, Bilstein's handle everything else better. However, in reality, your budget is going to decide for you.

The way that I look at it is this way: Expensive OEM system that will leak, leaks. You don't want to deal with that ish ever again. Buy some FJ springs and bilsteins (or bilsteins with stock springs). If you want to reduce body roll then get some poly bushings for your sway bar. Its a 4runner, not an audi. You are not supposed to take corners fast.

Ha. Yes, but it sure is fun having the 4R handle like nothing this large ad heavy has any right to.

I really wanted the X-REAS for the on-road handling capability. I don't do any wheeling, though. (yet?)

It's about $400 to replace the X-Reas sport suspension with Bilsteins. Awesome ride too!

I FINALLY got to scrap the X-REAS!
