DDM Tuning Ultra HID Kit?

I've been thinking of doing the HID swap in my 08 for a while now, and have been looking at the HID kit from DDM Tuning. Today when I went on their site, I noticed that there is now an "Ultra HID Kit" which I've never heard of before. Does anyone have any info on this kit? Is it worth the extra $52 over their "HID Kit With Slim Ballast"?

DDM HID Kit Slim Ballast 35W or 55W

Ultra HID Kit

the bigger ballast will always give you better light, the DDM ballast is a generic china ballast. nothing wrong with it, just nothing out of the ordinary. should last you a good few years as long as you secure them nice and tight.

I've used DDM kits since 08/09 and they have definitely been great and long lasting. I do miss having them here as opposed to shipping from overseas.
But I will tell you that for the price, not a bad company.

PS: Slim ballast is the way to go, not only for fitment but as a whole, getting the cheaper ballast is still pretty darn good. a few members here have also used DDM without or very little complaints..

Yea, I'm aware of the reputation that DDM has here on the forum. I've been reading a lot about them. It seems like the slim ballast used to be an upgrade option, but now its the standard ballast. The new "Ultra HID Kit" is what I'm curious about. Looks like it uses a metal ballast case instead of plastic, but I don't know if that makes it worth the extra $52. The ultra HID kit is only offered with the 4500K or 5500K bulbs, so if anything i would only get that for the lows and get the normal kit with 3000K for the fogs.

The new slim ballast ARE made out of metal.

The thing with ddmtuning is you get what you pay for, spend a little more for a quality product and go theretrofitsource.com
When I had ddmtuning , they carried a apexcone brand hid with lifetime warranty, I bought that and a few years later ballast no good, try to get a replacement and was ignored, they didn't want to honor the warranty.

So funny I did just order 2 of the ultra kits for my 4R... Did the fog lights if you call you can get the 3k for the fogs came out bad ass !!! Fogs are now brighter then regular bulb projector .. I tried 2-3 times to take a pic to see how yellow they are but I haven't done the fog light switch mod . Gonna do it when I'm home again . If you call you can get the 3ks bulbs .I just ordered a extra set of bulbs so I have a extra set of 5500k blubs in case I loose one . Sucks when your running around with one head light for a week . Which I did loose in my Tacoma with the older slim ballast.

My mistake. The pictures on the website looked like plastic at first glance. Thanks for clarifying that. But I take it you have no information about the new kit, so thanks anyways.

Did you have to order any harnesses/etc. with the new ultra kit? I've read that with the standard kit you don't need to.

Ive had DDM lights in 4 cars, always 35w and 55w, never had a failure. Do yourself a favor and get the harness, they pull a lot more power and will eventually burn out your headlight relay. Also, the ballasts for the most part stay put with 3M double sided tape so you can probably skip the mounting brackets

(that reminds me to hook mine up!)

I always order the kits unless by the time you build your own you spend 45$ for wire and and another 25$ on weather packs for connections ... Way nice to just plug and play they are plenty long too

I'd buy from Xenon Depot, fast shipping, superior support and quality products. I got the Volt kit and couldn't be happier.

DDM Tuning Ultra HID Kit?

I just bought some Kensun HIDs off of Amazon. So far I've been using them for about a month and I love them. They also came with a 2 year warranty. They were slim ballast and we're all metal.

I have run DDM on multiple rides and have always had good results. I went the eBay route recently and they have been a disaster. I will be ordering from DDM again. By the way their m3 bumpers and skirts were also very high quality!
