Need Help with Keyless Entry Question

I just bought a 2000 4Runner 4X4 SR5 sport. My first 4Runner. I've searched the forum for answers and found nothing about my problem.

Can a 4Runner that doesn't have OEM keyless entry be equipted with it?

I've found this thread http://www.toyota-4runner.org/showth...&threadid=5842 that makes me suspect that all I might need is a correctly programmed key fob. Can anyone confirm this for me either way. I'd like to get an OEM keyless entry system on my Runner if I can.

Also, is there a place that I can find out what options my Runner came with from the factory by the VIN?

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks.

Doesn't look like the SR5 came standard with keyless entry but it was part of the Extra Vale Package #2 if the original owner ordered it. You can see if it has any of the other items on the list and this could narrow down the likelihood that it has keyless entry.

Thanks microjoe.

That link helped alot. It answered a few questions I had and raised a question or two in the process.

You were correct about option #2. I have everything but the keyless entry fobs. It would appear that I do, in fact, have keyless entry. I original owner must have lost or broke the key fobs as I never got them when I bought the vehicle.

I was able to confirm my suspicion by using the instructions to enter the programming mode of the vehicle. http://www.toyota-4runner.org/showth...remote+program

Now all I have to do is pick up a couple of key fobs (FCC ID: HYQ1512Y) off Ebay and I should be set.

Thanks again for the help.

I had the same problem when I bought mine. The dealership said they would give me a "deal" and order me one key fob for $105. I ordered 2 through EBay for $60 with shipping. They work great even though the programming instructions do everything but ask you to spin around and pat your head. Congrats on the keyless entry, I love mine.
