I broke my front passenger side cover off by jumping up on the rock slider and grabbing for the rack at the same time. My foot slid one way and I fell the other way, taking the cover with me. Damn near broke my leg. Now I always gently step on the second door slider and grab the roof rack in the middle, then step toward the front.
that's todays safety meeting, y'all be careful out there.

I know this is late, but similar enough I have the same problem. Do you gave yours replaced under warranty? If not can you please direct me to your dealer so I can buy these at the net price without overpaying for these plastic snap on covers... thanks..

Add me to the list I just saw I was missing a rear passenger cover. I knew that it was loose and pushed it down whenever I felt it loose. I thought if I did lose it it would be around $20 for a new one from dealer. I never expected it to be this much for a piece of plastic. If I had known it was close to $100 I would of tried to find a way to fix it when I had the chance. I bought it from Amazon for $59.08 it was the lowest price I could find.

Add me to the list
I have a 2006 4runner SR5. Lost my rear passenger side cover the other day. These things are expensive to replace!

Really sorry to hear.
When I took those covers off to insert more crossbars, I broke a tab off one of them. After putting them back, I taped both of them down using 20 mil pipe tape. Doesn't look perfect, but I didn't want to take a chance...

Whats funny is that I can probably get more for just my OEM caps than what people ask for the entire damn rack after they upgrade to a flat rack or something.

Roof Rack Leg Cover Lost -- Also!
Wow. Just logged onto this forum for the first time ... and amused to note how many others have experienced the same thing with our 4-Runners: losing rack leg covers (RR in our case). Just ordered $66 replacement thru Amazon Prime.

Lost one too
Just replaced the front passenger side...I am pretty certain it was knocked off during a recent drive through the car wash. It's unfortunate these are so easy to lose.

Just found this thread and it is kind of ironic that this is more common than I thought...I also just went through the car wash last night and the driver's rear cover came off. They are going to comp me 3 full details instead of replacing the part through corporate, so $50-60 out of pocket for one works for me lol. Not as good of a detail as I would do myself I'm sure, but saves me a few days in the Florida heat this summer, so I'm ok with that!

I had the passenger rear one get ripped off in a car wash, but luckily I saw it fly off in my rear view mirror. I had them stop the wash and retrieve it for me, and was also lucky that it wasn’t damaged. I drilled and tapped into the actual brackets underneath on both sides and used stainless #10-24 screws to prevent them from ever falling off, or getting stolen.

I haven't ordered one yet and was wondering if this was something that could be remedied fairly easily. Thanks for the idea!

You’re welcome. The hardest part is studying the inner bracket casting to find the right spot to drill and tap, then measuring to find that spot on the cover. I used a smaller drill to pilot a hole through both pieces, then removed the cover, used the tap drill, tapped the bracket, and then just used a drill slightly larger than the #10 screw diameter to drill the plastic cover. My photo bucket account is all jacked up, otherwise I’d post a pic to show what it looks like, and give you an idea of the approx location. If someone wants to add the pic for me, just pm me an email, or phone and I can text it, or email it. I was originally going to “glue” the cover on with clear silicone or similar, but figured the mechanical fastener was much better in case I ever want/need to remove the cover.

Mine came off and was lost. I found a broken plastic clip or insert piece on the remaining rack leg. I got a new cover to put back on there, but I am wondering if anyone has any tips for fixing it to stay on now, other than the tape suggestion above. I was thinking filling it with some kind of goop or something...

Lost my RR for the first time (carwash, I am assuming). I ordered an apparently OEM one off the web but seller never responded so PayPal gave me my money back. Now off to look for another OEM one....

To my happy surprise, replacement I got on eBay was perfect. The color (silver) matched and it snapped on securely.
