V8 Transmission Fluid Drain and Fill Question

Yes, I did a lot of searching, actually 2 hours worth and I can't seem to find the answer I'm looking for.

DIY: Full Flush for Automatic Transmission - Tacoma World Forums

I saw this thread on tacoma world using the transmission fluid line to the radiator to drain old fluid, I understand the concept, but in in the post, he said he started the engine and shifted through the gears even. Wouldn't that be bad for the transmission with 2-3 quarts draining each time? Running the transmission with a lack of fluid?

Also, If i was just to do the traditional drain, fill, drain, fill, drain, fill until happy method, after each time I fill it, should I take it for a drive to get all the fluid mixed in?

Follow factory temperature check method, you would be OK, you are safe drain fill several times.
don't worry, many people did this. I did it twice.

If drain and fill, you'd want to start it and run it through the gears in between each fill. Let me know if you decide to do the DIY flush on a 4th gen 4Runner. Or if you find a DIY post for doing it on a 4Runner.
