Diagnosing 2006 Roar...Drivetrain?
Hey guys,
My sister had me drive her 06 4R today because of a "roaring" noise she described at 35 and 70 MPH. Sure enough, I begin to hear it and feel it in the floorboard. It sounds like an airplane taking off...as the airplane gets faster, the engines roar loader, and it has that same turbine noise tone to it. I cannot hear it outside the vehicle whatsoever.
The engine sounds great, and the transmission shifts perfectly and quickly. I put the truck in neutral at 35MPH and it did not affect the sound, so I think I can eliminate transmission. Doesn't sound like tire noise either.
Any thoughts here? She confessed she doesn't get it maintained by Toyota. I've seen some instances where local shops are not aware of the grease zerks in the 4R driveshafts. Am wondering if it could be something as simple as this if its been neglected for very long. Or perhaps rear diff gears?
Thanks in advance.
