Standard or thin wall socket for lug wrench?

A friend of mine had a flat today on his Jeep and we had a tough time finding pipe for more leverage to work with his lug wrench to loosen the lugs. We did find something but his crap wrench just bent and was basically useless.

To arm myself for future chores, i went online and found this....

http://www.amazon.com/Gorilla-Automo...productDetails

I have a stock 4Runner so do I get standard socket or thin wall socket? Don't know what thin wall socket is.

Anyone have experience with this Gorilla wrench?

Thanks

Standard should be fine, but I have something like this Ampro T29771 1/2-Inch Drive Standard Extendable Ratchet - Socket Wrenches - Amazon.com

that I got from harbor freight. It ratchets and is rated to like 400 ft lbs or something stupid. I keep that and a 1/2" socket set in the truck at all times.

Standard socket will work fine. I have the same Gorilla wrench in standard size and it has worked flawlessly in all my Hondas and Toyotas.

This! I had one before I got my impact gun and it worked great. It will extend enough to give you pretty good leverage

Thanks for the suggestions and help. I just ordered this for my truck since I already have the 1/2 inch 13/16 socket......

http://www.amazon.com/Neiko-Heavy-Du...iko+heavy+duty

And I picked up the Gorilla power wrench with the thin sockets for my sons Mazda 6 which has a tighter recessed fit for the lugs.

A good 1/2" ratchet can withstand 800ft-lb or more. Ratchet-Handles Torture Test - Hot Rod Magazine (those are all cheap ones)

I skipped a tooth on my 3/8" ratchet trying to loosen a stuck suspension bolt. Luckily it looks like there was no damage. I'd rather have a good 1/2" ratchet and use my jack handle as a breaker bar than have a less useful fixed breaker bar (and still need the jack handle most of the time).

I think my impact sockets fit the lug nuts on my truck, and they are super thick walled. I don't have an impact wrench (yet), but I got them because they were cheaper than regular sockets. The thick wall does get in the way sometimes, but regular non-impact sockets are thinner, and they should be fine for almost anything.

i would get the thin wall. its more universal to use, since u can use it to help others and charge them for service.

a regular socket is fine for as long as the lug nuts are torqued properly. if it was tightened too much from a car shop, then you have a problem.
