I would like to thank @morphious for keeping track of this data and thread up to date. Being an owner of an 05 4Runner it's something I am interested in but not overly concerned about. If it blows, I'll just replace it or trade it in.... nothing lasts forever, especially a vehicle. All I can control is performing the recommended maintenance.

When I purchased my '04 V6 two years ago, within a week my engine light came on and the truck started spurting a bit so I took it back to the dealer. They changed all spark plugs and gave it a full tune-up. Week later it did it again, so I took it back. This time they replaced the head gasket and never again. lucky for me I was still under that "30 day" used vehicle warranty, lucky me I guess.

p0306

Looks like I need to start saving as well.... 2005 SR5 4x2 130K Cyl# 6. Have not yet confirmed leaking HG, but all symptoms match what have been described here. Just started getting the P0306 after replacing an O2sensor on drivers side bank, along with the occasional rough idle accompanied by MIL showing P0306. I have since swapped the #6 coil over to # 5, no MIL since the swap... Of course, happened just two months after purchasing this used. One thing, I did a thorough job of burping the cooling system, and have since noticed I'm not overfilling the res anymore... Just drove it to Vegas and no overheating or MIL, so I am hoping (maybe more like wishing) I don't actually have the bad HG. If so, gonna have to try some liquid fix. Any thoughts on the liquid head gasket sealers? Has anyone used one with good results?

All the typical symptoms. Its at the shop now. My mechanic says its an extremely tiny pin hole of a failure as it only lost 6# over an entire weekend. It must only leak under certain conditions during the cooling down of the engine after the truck is turned off. He is putting together pricing for new hg.

I am thinking about trading it in on an 07 with 92k, but I am not sure I can ever trust this v6, or Toyota for that matter, ever again. 3rd gens went for 300k with poor maintenance, and Toyota sold the 4th and 5th gens, with junk engines, on that reputation. Not sure what I can do at this point, other than get a 4 cyl taco. If I was ok with buying a truck that only went 150k, even with very good maintenance, I'd get something much cheaper than a 4runner. Shame on Toyota for not acknowledging this!

Sorry, it's been a long time since I have logged on here. Yes, as for an update, the dealer did replace both head gaskets. All said and done for about $3300 I believe. It has been excellent ever since. No more issues whatsoever!

Does anyone think social media put pressure on Toyota to do the right thing for those with the cracked dashboards? I remember that someone on here made a facebook page detailing the problem with the dashboards. It just seems good business for Toyota to acknowledge our problem and help us out as to retain customers. It's not a large problem as demonstrated by this thread. Therefore, in a show of good faith, it wouldn't take much for Toyota to do the right thing.

Dashboards are not head gaskets
