New member of the board and the T4R gang
I wanted to at least say thanks to the board members here; your knowledge and expertise have been great! I've learned so much about maintaining my vehicles and especially the new 4Runner.
In 2001, a friend of mine got a new 4Runner, and I thought, "Someday..." Well, "someday" came a week ago when we drove our '06 SR5 V6 off the lot at Toyota of Des Moines, Iowa. Titanium with the gray interior, the normal package of moonroof, 17" wheels, etc.
Love it to death.
We tend to keep our vehicles forever, so I'm looking forward to the next decade with my first Toyota. Our '97 Accord has 204K miles and still without a hiccup. Now thanks to the wisened advice from the fellow obsessive-compulsive car guys on this board, its black paint will soon be given the clay bar treatment and Meguiars NXT polish job. I can't wait to do the same to the first automotive object of my affection, my first car I got in high school: my 1984 Firebird Trans Am. Silver and black, V8 4-barrel carb, always garaged and stored winters, now in storage all but two months of the year. His name is Sammy, and I've cared for him obsessively.
I tend not to mod up my vehicles, but I've already removed the dealership sticker and waxed the rear hatch with the NXT. HOLY CRAP I couldn't believe how fantastic it made brand-new paint feel. The rest of the 4R is getting the treatment asap.
And for the first time ever, I took a new vehicle off-roading. At the school I teach (H.S. English), a fellow teacher and I had to try out the DAC and a little trail riding. Way too much fun. The DAC is amazing, though I think the old man who caught us on the cross country trail was less excited about our presence there than we were. He had a stick and a plastic bag. I do not know why.
I love the ride quality, the handling, the interior design is fantastic, and the overall thoughtfulness of pretty much every feature is remarkable. I'm hoping the gas milage improves a little from the 16-18 of mostly highway I'm getting, but it only has about 840 miles on it, so we'll see.
Thanks again for a great site. I'll be lurking.
