Creative minds needed, 4th gen RTT mount/homemade rack
TW is having a great GB on CVT tents and I can't help but get one. But after spending a grand on the tent I don't have another grand or more for a rack.
I found a homemade mount using uni-strut for a 3rd gen for a Tepui but the 4th gens rails are different than the 3rd gen. Can something like this work on the 4th gen?
I don't like the Yakima/Thule, they sit high and seem unsafe.
Any help is MUCH appreciated
(IF all comes to all, I will get a WM rack)

I've always thought about doing this, but not real sure I have a need for a roof rack.
Buy the ARB 4runner fit kit #3722010 (not 100% sure is it includes all parts but ARB racks are universal so I assumed this includes the roof rails and some other parts)
and adapt this home built rack
The J-Rack

I think it's pretty established that the factory rack can hold a loaded RTT under static conditions. no creativity needed I don't think...

Yup, I've posted about this several times. Just rotate your tent rails 90 degrees when putting them on your tent, and mount them directly to the stock roof rack rails (after removing the stock crossbars). This is about as low profile as you can get.
I hope you have better luck with the TW group buy than I did. Took 5 months to get a tent and 7 months to get the accessories ordered with it.

I hope it doesn't take 5 months, summer will almost be over.

i was part of last years GB.
I ordered march 21, 2014 a Mt Shasta, then changed it to a Mt Hood, then Changed it again to a Mt rainier that i got May 8th.
If you want to talk about dropping some bucks LOL.
I dont think the stock rack will be sturdy enough compared to WMW rack.
4th gen do not have a rail like that PDF you listed. If you ordered a RTT, best order a WMW while you are at it.
Just do it, you'll be happier in the end.
what RTT did you order?

I want the Mt Shasta, don't need anything too big but I do want the room below (can't think of the name right now, its been a long day)
I know our rails are different thats why I wanted to see if anyone had fabbed something like they did for the 3rd gen.

in my mt rainier, i can put a queen size air mattress under the steps INSIDE the annex! You going to make me dig up pictures now....i love my tent.
WARNING:
If you dont like random people walking up to you and asking about your RTT
If you dont like people asking to check it out
If you dont like to draw attention to yourself when you roll up at camp
DO NOT GET A RTT.
A RTT will get you instant celebrity status on the campgrounds. everyone will be pointing, ooooooh-ing and ahhhhh-ing, and as you drive by they will be trying to get your attention, they will walk out in front of you to stop you and ask you questions about it.
It sucks, i have 5% window tint just because of that, lol joking!

Room below is called an annex. . .trust me the only reason I know, because after you research these for months and then drop a pretty penny on them, you tend to know them inside out. The only reason I went with a Rainer, is with a growing family I figured to buy the biggest, instead of keep growing out of smaller ones and continually buying the next size up.

Creative minds needed, 4th gen RTT mount/homemade rack
I have the the Mt Bachelor mounted to the stock rack and the added basket up front for miscellaneous storage. It's a pain to tighten down the RTT nuts due to the clearance between the rack and the roof, but it works nicely with out the added expense.

@ piccrazy30
Mt Rainier $1795 - 30% = 1256.50
Mt Hood/Shasta $1495 - 30% = 1046.50
Difference of $210 vs regular price difference of $300
I did tons of research to find that these RTT actually increase in price every year with models seldom changing.
and best part, while prices increase on new units, this allows your used unit to retain its value. Average resale of these units are around the 50-80% of the original MSRP not the group buy pricing.
saw a Mt Shasta exchange hands this past winter for $900, thats a $146 loss not including shipping with the group buy pricing at $1046 after 30%
It would not make sense to NOT buy a larger more comfy unit. OR buy the cheaper one and with the savings spend it on the WMW rack.
I budgeted $2500 for this, i came in at $2200 for the tent and WMW
