Today, on my way to work, I noticed a strange rattling noise coming from the front driver's side wheel area (the kind of the sound rattling metal would make). It seemed to only happen during left turns, and only when I'm in 4WD. I tried replicating it during right turns and while in 2WD and it never happened...left turns in 4WD only.
I've searched and have read threads about rattling skid plates, but this doesn't seem to be it. It definitely seems to be coming from the wheel area. I pulled the wheel and I checked that metal cover on the back side of the brake disk, and it does not appear to be loose.
Now, here's the another weird part. After work, on the way home, I couldn't replicate it at all. Normally, I'd be happy that the noise is gone, but will it come back? Is it something serious?
Anyone have any ideas what this could be?
As an aside (which may or may not be related to the rattling), I did some 4wheelin this past weekend. During one part, I got the drivers side pretty deep in some mud/water (I damn near rolled it...water was almost up to the bottom of the side windows). I've thoroughly cleaned the whole truck and I don't see any stray dirt or sticks that could be rattling. I just think it's important to mention this to anyone who may have some ideas about this stupid rattle.
I would not say it's normal and probably not an issue except for being annoying. Mine goes in soon for tire roataion , XM install , oil change and will have them check out the rattle.
I'm not exactly sure that's it but have read it on here before.
